My search did not find anything about this unit - perhaps a new thread...
Does anyone have this unit or another LiteOn DVD REcorder/VCR? I have two units both with DVD recorders that don't record and don't read a disc unless it was recorded on another player. It's now a VCR with an unreliable DVD player attached. Tried multiple emails with Liteon and they repeatedly gave me lists of types of discs to use - none of which were available in the US. I recorded on about 100 discs with no problems at all and then it just started saying "failed" or "no disc" or other things and sometimes wipes the contents. The second unit I recorded even less discs and the same thing happened.

Any suggestions? Anyone else have problems with this unit?

You may want to consider swapping the dvd drive in one of your LiteOn units. Read this (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=170284&highlight=9016G) thread at club.cdfreaks.com. The drive is a standrard dvd unit that uses the same IDE and power connectors as a computer dvd drive . One poster had success using this (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/lite-on-shm-165p6s/1437) drive as a replacement on a LiteOn recorder.

With the power off and the recorder unplugged, remove the recorder's cover, detatch the IDE cable and the power connector to the old dvd drive, rest the new drive on top of the existing dvd drive, and attach the IDE cable and power. connector to the new drive. Power the unit up and see if it reads discs burned on the old drive and records/dubs from the tuner/vcr. If it works, you problem is solved.

You do not have to remove the old burner from the recorder. You can attach the new burner externally. Read the first few pages of this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=736151) thread to see how it was done on a Polaroid unit.
