I'm torn on which of these are the best.
I guess I don't know all that much about the technology yet and I'm looking for the best picture quality on a 42" Sharp LCD 1080p HDTV.
Phillips DVP5982/37
Panasonic DVD-S53K/S53S
Toshiba SD-6000
LG DN798
Samsung DVD-1080p7
So, which is the best choice and why?
Thanks for the help!
I'd get the Sony, which I believe is also <$100.
philips 5982 plays almost everything and also can play from USB. PQ is also very good. Price is < $70. Excellent value for the money.

another model to consider is the Pioneer DV400VK DVD player
Sony 75H does not do 1080p and only 1080i.
IMHO, Phillips 5982/37 is the best buy of the bunch due to Mediatek chipset.
LG798 is not clear yet as chipset is not proven yet.
There is also the $49 Magnavox which also does 1080p but does not pass DTS via SPDIF at Sams Club with included HDMI cable. It uses Panny chipset so is essentially a stripdown version (Panasonic 53S does pass DTS) and is also a good value.
Panasonic 53S is pretty good using their own excellent Panny MPEG decoder and proprietary scaling solution. It's pretty good.
Pioneer 400v uses Mediatek and is good except overpriced at over $100.
Toshiba and Samsung uses Zoran and worst value of the bunch.

Don't forget the newly released 5-Disc RCA DRC290...$79 at Wal Mart..
Mine works great and has an awesome picture.

FYI the Pioneer DV-400V is now $99.00 per their pioneerelectronics site
Personally appearance wise I like the DV-400 of this group, PQ performance wise its close. The Pioneer DV-400V, the Sony DVPNS75H and Panasonic 53S are decent players IMHO. Knowing that a lot of RPD's have upconversion built in how much of a difference does it make getting a DVD player with good performance that only does 720P/1080i versus a DVD player that does 1080P? (when used with a 1080P set)
