I have a Samsung HL-P6163 which was purchased at Sears. It was under warranty when the bulb went dim. My picture was really blurry and I had black shadows on my screen.

The tech replaced the bulb and then took out glass cleaner and used paper towels to wipe down the mirror. Ever since then, my picture just looks ok, not spectacular high def like. Is this the proper way to clean a mirror? I am in a dispute with Sears right now over getting a pro-rated credit back so I can purchase a new tv. They told me if my tech (not the Sears tech) would write a statement it would help with the situation.

I have a new HL-S6767 that the power supply went out on and the tech told me they should not clean the mirrors that way. Anyone have any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

Parkytivo,

I've experimented with many different glass/lens cleaners and cloths over the years. And while some were better than others, I don't believe that any caused the picture to look appreciably worse afterwards. So I would be surprised if that's really the culprit. Did the tech attempt to focus your display or was anything else done beyond the mirror cleaning and lamp replacement?

I don't believe he was trying to adjust the focus. I don't know if he bumped something while replacing the bulb or cleaning the mirror. He was not savvy enough to make a focus adjustment. He kept trying to order the wrong bulb and I had to give him the correct replacement from Samsung.

Any glass cleaner without ammonia, and paper towels without additives are ok to use on mirrors & lenses. I prefer blue shop towels because they don't sluff off particles like regular white paper towels. Usually microdisplay mirrors don't need cleaning as often as older crt based Tvs. I won't clean a microdisplay mirror unless the Tv is 4-5yrs old, or the house is a smokers or they live in a highly rural area with dirt roads and I can see the dust build up in the fans and such.

If it was under warranty, why didn't sears come do the repair?

It took them 4 weeks to get someone out the last time. I was retiring from the military and moved to a different state. We have now just moved into our new house. We plan on giving Sears a call again once everything is settled.
