Please interpret the following from the official PS3 blog yesterday. I am new to digital camcorders and have a PS3 on the way. Looking for reasons not to buy the Sony HDR-UX1 which can be found for a GREAT price right now.
so here’s a quick heads up that we have a PS3 firmware update in the works. Scheduled for release in the next few days, firmware 1.82 is an update that enables the playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files. As most of you know, these are high quality files that you’ll now be able to play on your PS3.Does this mean that the PS3 will be able to recognize and play files created by an AVCHD camcorder? I know you can just put the DVD in and play on the PS3 but this would be appealing if the files could be stored on a networked hard drive (or the PS3) and use the PS3 to view them. Still not sure my laptop will handle the AVCHD format yet for playback or conversion to DVD's that will play on most players.
I cannot post URL's yet but the source of the quote was "blog . us. playstation . com"
