Tried to search and there was almost no mention of this model.

Thinking of picking one up at circuit city today.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi NYGirl:

in general, DMR-ES25 is a fine unit, it came out last year.
It's hard to make more recommendations without knowing your personal need.

There should be numerous discussions about this player scattered in this forum,
a search under "DMR-ES25", dropping the "s" (which stands for silver) might help.
discussion on related model DMR-ES15 might also help.

Worst case, you can always return the player if necessary.

I have a DRM ES25 and DRN ES15 they are identical except for the addition of HDMI and SD reader/writer on the ES25; both excellent DVD Recorders.

Thanks for the feedback. I am now thinking about buying the ez47v because I would like to transfer my vhs tapes to dvd and the reviews seem to be favorable.

I have a $40 off coupon from Circuit City and an extra hdmi cable that I bought from monoprice so it seems like a good deal for $250 plus tax. I was considering Costco, but Circuit City is more convenient to me and at least they have the 30 day return policy.

Hope it turns out well.

I just picked this up and I'm using it with my MAG 32" LCD TV. I noticed the tuner produces a very grainy picture.

The coax passes through the recorder and the output of recorder is connected by component video.

The picture quality is good when I use the TVs tuner, but when I use the DMR-ES25S' tuner, it's quite grainy and the color tone is different. The recorded video is just as grainy as well.

If the signal was weak, I'd think the picture quality directly viewed on TV would be even worse, because it is actually downstream of the DVD rec, meaning additional attenuation of signal.

Is the tuner in DMR-ES25S' not very good? Would a similar priced Sony do better?

Is the tuner in DMR-ES25S' not very good? I don't find it unusual for the analog tuner in a DVDR or VCR to be not as good as tuner in the TV (as long as the TV is of decent quality). I've never had an outboard component with a tuner that outperformed the tuner of the TV to which it was attached -- and that is even using amplified splitters so each component gets it's own feed.

I currently have a 2.5 yr old E-85 connected into a 12 yr old Sony 32" TV and the tuner on the 12 yr old TV is noticably better than the E-85 as far as picture clarity and lack of grainyness. I can't comment on digital tuners yet.
