View Full Version : netflix's price went down denis9834 06-27-07, 08:41 PM now the 2 at a time program is 13.99 and all 3 matrix hd-dvd are available to rent, gotta love netflix. Robert Spalding 06-28-07, 12:24 AM I see the 2 at a time at 12.99 not 13.99 sunnysky 06-28-07, 07:52 AM I've never joined netflix or Blockbuster. Is 12.99 for 2 at a time, a good price? Does blockbuster cost more? If this IS a better price, it may be Netflix trying to counterpunch the announcement by BB last week. Which is great, as long as they're still carrying HD-DVD. Very cool. I think. I guess I should look into this. mproper 06-28-07, 08:15 AM BB's compariable plan is $13.99. For $14.99 you get the Total Access, which allows you to return the movies to the store for free rentals. What was Netflix's price before? mchuckp 06-28-07, 08:53 AM BB's compariable plan is $13.99. For $14.99 you get the Total Access, which allows you to return the movies to the store for free rentals. What was Netflix's price before? I was paying $12.99 for BB Total Access. I think they raised the price some time recently. I was debating switching to Netflix but I really like getting movies locally and using my free monthly coupon to rent a game. ressom 06-28-07, 09:03 AM I see the 2 at a time at 12.99 not 13.99 I see the 2 at a time at 13.99 not 12.99. What's going on here? gab2409 06-28-07, 09:37 AM BB's compariable plan is $13.99. For $14.99 you get the Total Access, which allows you to return the movies to the store for free rentals. What was Netflix's price before? I have the one at a time plan (9.99), and I have total access. does netflix lock in your price for x amoint of time when you sign up, or might the 13.99 increase randomly? Stryker412 06-28-07, 10:05 AM The netflix plan is only for the first 3 months. I got the e-mail yesterday. But I refuse to drop Netflix -- their customer service has been impeccable, my new DVD's always arrive the second day after I shipped back the previous ones, I've never had a DVD have a waiting time, and they carry all of the obscure titles that I want. PastorDan 06-28-07, 10:57 AM I pay $4.99 for one at a time, 2 per month max, WITH Total Access (so two more free there), and 1 coupon per month for a free rental from the web site. So, that's $4.99/month for 5 movies, which is about all I have the time to watch anyway... JulesH 06-28-07, 10:57 AM http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6455947.html Perhaps this is why. danieloneil01 06-28-07, 12:54 PM I just started using NetFlix and you can also stream movies from the site.. While it's not HD it does however look extremely good for what it is (on my projector).. I do the 2 at a times and get I think 18 hrs a month.. mproper 06-28-07, 01:14 PM The BB plan sounds compelling for if there's a movie that you really need to see at that moment... Off topic, but...what I've been doing with BB (I just joined about 4 weeks ago) is I loaded up my queue with all the movies that I've heard of and want to see. I then return the online rentals to the store (there's one very very close to work), and I browse the in-store selection, and get something I've never heard of that sounds interesting. Most of this is straight-to-video stuff that otherwise I would never see. It seems to work out well, and I've already found a couple "diamonds in the rough" that otherwise I never would have seen. I haven't ever tried Netflix, but I hear great things, and if I ever have a problem with BB (or if they stop stocking new release HD DVDs), I'll jump ship. Djoel 06-28-07, 01:19 PM I just got an email about this from Netflix, good any little bit of cash counts... Now if every bill knocked a couple of bucks off, it would be a wonderful world... Djoel cws_kahuna 06-28-07, 01:22 PM Mine shows $13.99 as well for the 2 at a time unlimited plan. I thought it was $14.99 though just a few days ago. That's a great way to use your Blockbuster membership PastorDan. I'm on the netflix $11.99 plan (no longer available) which gets me 4 movies a month. The Blockbuster store near me is just not a very good one, the Hollywood Video is much nicer but they are kind of pricey. WirelessGuru 06-28-07, 01:42 PM I think this rocks! I expected prices to go up with mail rates increasing. HD-DVD offerings are starting to become available more often as well. After a rocky start when they first started carrying high definition, I am now very happy with my subscription. thanks Netflix! sivartk 06-28-07, 02:02 PM It was some of their terms that I didn't agree with that caused me to cancel my account (I now use neither) We reserve the right to process orders and otherwise allocate and ship DVDs among our subscribers in any manner that we, in our sole and absolute discretion, determine. In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we may utilize many different factors, including without limitation, the number and type of DVDs you rent through our service, the subscription plan you select, as well as other uses of our service by you. ...the actual number of DVDs you rent in any month may vary, and you may experience differentiated service during the course of your membership. Also, such service may be different from the service we provide to other members on the same membership plan. More or less if they don't like the frequency in which you are renting movies, they can intentionally slow your service....and the worst part, you agree to it when you sign up. Pedro2 06-28-07, 03:58 PM Personally, I'm getting a bit fed up with Netflix--they have repeatedly skipped over my top picks (typically new releases), often sending me my fifth or sixth choice, and then sometimes send me a DVD from a distributor far away--increasing the wait time by a few extra days. I sent customer service a few emails about it and received form letter responses--including the peculiar claim that they are not allowed to increase the number of new release titles they purchase. By far the best thing about netflix is that most of my titles come from a distributor not far away, which means overnight delivery in both directions. I haven't looked into whether or not Blockbuster is the same, but have been tempted to switch over. RaginCajun92 06-28-07, 04:23 PM Are you guys getting the HDDVD new releases in the same week? I NEVER get new HD's right away anymore and I have all the new releases at the top of my queue. I used to get new releases right away but not anymore. I'm still waiting for Harsh Times, Breach, Freedom Writers and Apoctalypto (BD) and those have been out for quite some time! Very aggravating. I've gone out and just bought some movies that never seem to ship from both Netflix and BB. Like others have mentioned, they have skipped over my top picks sometimes too and sent some crappy SDDVD I had down lower in the Q. maingon 06-28-07, 04:51 PM I will never get rid of Netflix, they been great. I been able to get new HD-DVD releases when they been at the top of my list. I love how fast they are shipping and if how fast they ship a new copy out if the one you get is scratched etc. txfilmguy 06-28-07, 04:58 PM does netflix lock in your price for x amoint of time when you sign up, or might the 13.99 increase randomly? It's not locked in. They send out an email ahead of time to let you know of the price change so you can decide if you want to continue. This has been the only price change I've seen in the past year or so, and it went down. lilstinky 06-28-07, 05:19 PM I was paying $12.99 for BB Total Access. I think they raised the price some time recently. I was debating switching to Netflix but I really like getting movies locally and using my free monthly coupon to rent a game. I switched to BB for the exact same reasons but I just switched back to Netflix because I was never getting any of the new release HD-DVDs or Blu-Rays. There is a reason they are making the deal so sweet. joerod 06-28-07, 05:26 PM I said it before and I will say it again! Netflix is the only way to go... ;) PerryD 06-28-07, 05:59 PM I keep my Netflix queue empty and add the exact movie I want to see. Invariably, it'll ship within a couple days, no matter the status. It takes a bit of patience plus you won't maximize your rentals, but you'll get exactly the movie you want to watch in the order you want to watch it. Blockbuster has it's own share of problems, namely whether they bother to stock the new release at all. No "Bridge to Terebithia" last week? No "Black Snake Moan" this week? It's really frustrating. bakpakva 06-28-07, 06:04 PM Netflix has been very good for me. I like the idea of renting before buying. I have done too many blind buys that I have later regretted. I do seem to get the latest releases if I time my returns just right. If you miss them the week they are release though, it could be a week or more before they are available again. The turnaround time for me is quick as well. If I put a disc in the mail they receive it the next day and send out a new one from my queue which I receive the following day. Can't be much faster than that! I have had a couple that skipped in the past, but after the latest firmware upgrade on my HDV5000 and a good scrubbing with dishwashing soap and warm water, I haven't experience that lately. I did miss out on the Black Snake Moan this week, as I was traveling. Might be a while before I get that one considering the reviews. |
