Anyone else having this problem? I am trying to load motorstorm once I hit X to select it from the XMB, it does the playstation sound, then TV goes completely black. TV doesn't give me the "HDMI" indicator which would suggest that the ps3 has dropped out.

I was playing games recently, and only installed 1.82 this morning, so I'm thinking that's the problem.

wtf is going on?

Edit - resistance is fine.

my games loaded fine after the update. re-check your display settings and game settings on the XMB and do a reset if need be (turn of the power on the back as well)

If I do a hard reset, do I need an external device to backup my game saves etc? I have a 2 gig SD card, but that's it - or can I merely do the "backup utility" on the xmb and then when I do the reset, my game saves won't be affected? So confused (but I'm away from the ps3 for a couple hours) thanks for the help.

You won't loose any data with a reset, all you are doing is turning the power off on the back, not formating the drive or anything.

That was kinda happening with me. All the icons for my games weren't loading and stuff. And when I tried loading MKII, it went black for like 30 seconds then started showing the MIDWAY and Sony Online Entertainment logos and such. It was weird but after a hard reset (switching off the back switch then back on) it worked fine.

My PS3 has been shutting off randomly VERY often while playing MKII though, but nothing else. Motorstorm is fine, BD's are fine, and DVDs all play fine and have never shut the system off. System is extremely well ventellated (literally sitting on my hard wood floor standing up with tons of breathing space). Kinda worrying me.

Reboot your PS3!

The firmware 1.82 will not screw up your box.

I've been seeing the same thing. I've noticed the icons take a while to load when my computer is on, and it's trying to load all of the media server content. If I just give it a few minutes, everything gets all straight and it works perfectly.

I got that problem when I accidentally downloaded the Motorstorm time attack before updating via online first. This was also right after I updated to 1.82 as well. The PS3 logo would come on and then go to black. The only thing is I checked R:Fom which was playing fine, so I knew it wasn't 1.82 but the wrong sequence in the Motorstorm update. After applying the right sequence all was well.

Since updating to 1.82, I've played the new Harry Potter game, a PS2 game, and watched some trailers.

thowe- thanks for the input, sounds like I did what you did. I forgot to add that I d/led the time attack from the ps store before updating the game - I guess this was a mistake, eh? But how can I fix it if I can't get the game to load?

Note, I just turned the power off (front and back) and problem persists. But now RFOM seems to be working fine. So...how do I undo my mistake of installing the time trial ?

You'll need to delete the update file. NOT YOUR GAME SAVE FILE.

I'd tell you exactly where to go, but my fiancee is working out using the Yourself Fitness PS2 disc on the PS3 right now. :D

I did the same thing but havent put the disc in the install the update. I went to find the time trial file and it is not under the games list. Where can I find it?

Thanks

Mine didn't show up on the PS3 as an option after I installed it. Just download it from the PS Store(main page, you can't miss it) and away you go.

Here's the order you have to do: 1) Download 1.2 by going to "online" in game. It will say "there's an update available, blah blah" 2) download time trial in ps store.
*to play in "time trial mode" you go in game, and it's under "wreckreation"

If you did not do things in that order, it's ok. You have to find your game utility file, NOT your game save. If it says "Motorstorm 1.1" (hit triangle to view info) and you have already downloaded the time trial file from the ps store, you DELETE the motorstorm 1.1 update file. Then, you should go in game and hit "online" until it prompts you for an update, as in the steps above. THEN d/l the time-trial file from the ps store.

I'm currently having trouble connecting to regular online mode though, anyone else?

Where do you find the game utility file, under what menu section?

We've had two PS3s for the past few months just experienced the first "frozen system" post 1.82. My little one was playing her Rab-a-Dub duckie game and I had to power cycle the unit. Other than that single "freeze" we haven't had any problems with other PS3 games.

Ive also experienced freezing since the 1.82 update. Ive had the system since december and never had a freeze until after this update. Its frozen twice on me in 2 days. Simply turning the power off and on on the back of the system seems to resolve the issue. Hopefully this is fixed with the next update.

I just started having a problem playing Resident Evil 4 after the update. Sometimes the game will load but the screen skewed with the right half pushed over to the left side of the screen with a black gap after it. The game plays fine just with the display problem. This only started happening after the update. Luckily I can quit the game then reload it from the dash and it fixes it.

/System set to 1080i, display set to normal ( non stretch )
/I do not play any other PS2 games at this time so I do not know if it is isolated to just RE4
