When you burned the DVDs on your DVD recorder, did you "finalize" them? If they haven't been finalized they'll likely play fine on the recorder but nowhere else.

Depending on the recorder, it may use a menu description item like "make playable on other players" or something similar rather than the word "finalize".

If you can't find the right option, tell us exactly what recorder you have and perhaps someone here can help.

I did finalize the disk, but my other players would not play the disks when it wasnt finalized, my model number is:
Philips DVD Recorder w/ Digital Tuner, DVDR3505/37

People might be able to help better if you explained the "computer" part of what you did or are trying to do.

Specifically, did you start with a blank DVD in the recorder and you want to make copies in the computer, or vice versa.

Philips recorders also have steps for making their discs "compatible" in certain circumstances, and these might apply depending on what you did or are trying to do.

Also, what brand and type of disc...Verbatim -R, Sony +R, ???

As Chuck44 said, you didn't really provide the answers needed yet. Try this:

1. Did you create the DVD in the Philips recorder, or in the computer?

2. Where do you want to make the "quicker" copies, in the recorder or in the computer?

3. What brand of disc (Sony, Verbatim, ???).

4. What type of disc (-R. +R, -RW, +RW, or -RAM)?

5. Single-layer or double-layer disc?

6. What rec. mode ("speed") did you use to record the original disc (HQ, SP, SPP, LP, SLP, ...)?

7. How many titles on the disc and what is the total length in time (1hr, 2 hrs, ...)?

8. Did you make any edits on the original disc (chapters, scene deletes, etc).

To join into the fray here... :D

You burned and finalized the discs on your DVD recorder and are trying to read them using your computer, is that correct?

If that's true, could you tell us exactly how you're trying to read the discs in the computer? Are you using some specialized burning software such as Nero or Roxio, or are you using programs that came with Windows such as Media Player or Explorer?

I put a finalized DVD from my Philips DVDR3455/37 into the DVD Rom Tray of my computer, and a Blank DVD in the DVD-Burner Tray. It must be same type ( ie. + or - R) as the original DVD. I open up Nero and select "Backup" and then select "Copy DVD", set the burn speed etc., click OK and in about 10 minutes I have a perfect copy that plays back on every DVD Player I have yet to try it on.
