View Full Version : NFL Sunday ticket W/Superfan 2007

I just recieved my packet from D*. The breakdown is:

NFL Ticket : 5 payments @ $45.80 = $229
Superfan : 3 payments @ $33.00 = $99

Total $328

I just watch the HD stuff, they can stick the SD garbage. Still can't figure why they think the HD and SD fan are the same animal making us (HD fans) buy both.

Anyway that's 1 to 4 out of market games a week, asuming I'll watch some local broadcasts. That's a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 68 games for the year...give or take. So if you go middle of the road that's 40 games. That evens out to $8.5 a week. Sounds ok. Just bugs me I have to buy the ticket first. I guess if they just had a package for just the HD games, it would be $328 anyway.

I recal the Superfan was $150 last year? I bitched and complained about buying the Ticket just to get the superfan... I got a credit... My team has 5 prime time games this year... might not be worth the effort.

For me its not worth the price anymore. All of a sudden the other sports packages look great for just under $200 and you get games everyday. Over $300 for Sunday Ticket is just too much.

Superfan was not $150 last year, it was $100 (unless you called and got it for free like many people here).

Here we go again. I just received my packet along with the reminder that the payments would start showing up on my bill. The problem is that the packet says the SUPER FAN will be an additional second charge. I have had two previous conversations with CSR's who assured me that there would be no additional charge for Super Fan.

My subscription is an automatic renewal, etc.

Does this mean we are going to have to start calling DirecTv to seek a credit?

Poor way to "run a railroad".

After 5 years of having it, I'm not getting ST anymore because the price is getting too high, but everyone should be able to get Superfan for free. I was able to since its inception and when I cancelled they offered that free again.

I'm subscribed to this thread but I'm not recieving notices...anyway

I think I will call to cancel. My team has 6 prime time games this year.

I wouldn't get too hot and bothered about it... DirecTV is only sending out one packet (OK, make that 32 packets depending on your favorite team, but they all have the same pricing information). They didn't print out pricing specifically to you, so if you had an arrangement with them, it's not going to be reflected on the mailing you received.

Now whether DirecTV actually gives you Superfan free like they said they would is anyone's guess, since it's always a crapshoot with them. But your packet is not a sign that you will be charged.

DirecTV punishing HD viewers with the "SuperFan" pricing was one of the reasons I fired them and went to cable. The other was picture quality.

The ST price getting out of control. I'm going to call and get the Superfan credited but it is getting close to the point where just crossing your fingers that your team is on prime time and going to a sports bar for the rest of the games costs the same amount of money.

Well, I can tell you one person who is glad that the HD package includes SD b/c I watch the main games on my HD unit and also move a second tv into the living room on a second D* receiver tuned to the 'mix' channel or the 'red zone' channel so I can scan other games and know where to switch the HD tv during commercials, more exciting games, etc. Why would you not want both other that to save a buck or two? Additionally, I usually have a house full of other people watching every Sunday so fans of other teams besides the games I'm interested in can always keep up on their teams on the mix channels.

I have NO desire to watch anything in SD even my favorite team, but that's just me and second I have the HD DVR so I'm recording one while I watch another. I might even watch a local OTA game while I record 2 games on the DVR.

If they had a NFL package with just the HD games, no redzone, no replay... just the HD games and it was like $250... I would be happy with that. Forced to buy the ST so I can also purchase the Superfan JUST to get the HD games...just doesn't make sense. That's like going to buy a truck and having to buy a car first. I don't won't both.

I agree with you a basic HD package for that price would be a great option...but it isn't available. I'll record a few special games in HD on two HR10's but mostly I'll Season Pass the 'Short Cuts' 30 minute replays...those are SD but for just watching game film quickly of the two, three teams I follow...that feature is a useful addition for me . It would be great to have more options certainly.

I love the HD games, and the SD features of superfan. I'd pay if i had to, but i always get it for free.

That said, I understand that ome people don't care about the extra features if they're sd.

Although i think most of those SF features will be in HD soon enough.

Now if they WERE in HD, that's a whole new ballgame. Shortcuts in HD, when available, that would rock.

Anybody got the superfan credited back to them recently? I just tried to no avail. I will try again before the season starts. I am simply not going to pay $330 for 17 weeks of about 7 to 10 games per week that I don't get already. Its either free superfan or I'm cancelling Sunday Ticket.

I called to complain stating that even with my DVR, I can only watch 4 out of market HD games a week. They didn't even show a hint of trying to change my mind. Just canceled me right away.

Let's see week one... a Thursday game, 2 games @ 1:00, 1 @ 4:00 and one @ 8:00 Sunday night then the Monday night game, that's 6 games, oh Yeah... I'll miss the NFL ticket.

After cancelling this a month ago, then having to call back the next day because they also cancelled MLBEI by mistake, my bill showed the first charge for this. I called them pissed off and the CSR said they forgot to cancel it, told me she'd give me Superfan for free, I declined and she credited my account and threw in Cinemax for 3 months for free.

It pisses me off with all the aggrevation I got for trying to cancel. If the new bird doesn't bring us good HD & more of it, I'm flying the coop to Dish.

I figured they would do that with a lot of people. That way they get you to call back THEN suck you back in to the "Ticket".

I called them back in May saying I received the E-mail, want the "Draft" offer for Free Superfan, etc., and they made a note in my account, claiming they can't add the Superfan yet; check back in July.
I called back a couple times since then (always retention) and they kept saying, I can't add the Superfan package yet, etc. so FINALLY yesterday an excellent Retention CSR simply added the package and put on a $99 credit effectively cancelling it out. So if you call in and they say "we can't add NFL Superfan package on your account yet", that's BS (or the person you're talking to isn't on a particular 'clearance' level or something)

I just ordered DirecTV and was told by the CSR and her manager that the high definition games will come in the regular ST package starting this year - you do not need to order superfan to get the nfl ticket in high definition...

Was she lying to me?

Probably not lying, just misinformed.

From the DirecTV NFL ST web site:

Eye-popping Action in HD

DIRECTV broadcasts over 200 NFL games in HD* total including:

Up to 9 games per week in HD with SuperFan™**

** NFL SUNDAY TICKET is required to purchase NFL SUNDAY TICKET SuperFan.

So has anybody besides gghunt gotten retention to give the SuperFan for free? I still am going to play the card that it is a ripoff until CBS offers all games in HD, not that that matters to them (or the people here that continually defend the NFL and DirecTV on this when they are all in this with CBS together).

Well it took alot of work. but I managed to get Superfan for $99 with a $99 credit getting it for free. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that they charge that kind of a premium. I think this will be the last time I renew Sunday Ticket..

CBS is stepping up to match Fox this year. A better card to play is that you would love to keep ST but with Superfan it's a little too expensive.

Burn Notice on USA had a plug this week where a character said he loves a bar because it has "DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket....IN HD!".

Not too subtle.

I may try that as well, but I'm not sure what you mean about CBS stepping up. They still aren't showing all the games in HD (for all practical purposes Fox does), and if they don't show my team in HD, that's 90% of what matters to me (which is usually the case).

lol, I saw that too. Funny too, since Burn Notice isn't available in HD on Directv. AT least not yet... I like the show though. one of my favorite non-hd shows (having bruce campbell helps)

the sad thing is that, i think stuff like that is just the tip of the iceberg. Advertisers want to find ways around tivo users who skip commercials.

On dbstalk they are saying that CBS will show up to 6 games a week this year. The same as Fox. I have not seen this confirmed by CBS, but here is a link to a story about it. The 3rd article says a network spokesperson so it sounds pretty likely.

They are saying that a maximum of 2 games will be in SD on Sunday Ticket. In weeks with byes all games will be HD. In weeks with a Thursday or Saturday game and no byes 1 game will be in SD. Fox up to 6 games, CBS up to 6 games. The most games that can ever be on ST is 14. I cannot confirm but that is what is being said.

It turns out to be about 20 dollars a week for Sunday ticket. I've found it to be cheaper and more enjoyable to spend that 20 dollars at a sports bar where I can watch every game at the same time and enjoy the company of others.

Until Directv offers me a couple of beers and a basket of chicken wings each week, they can take sunday ticket and shove it.

It's more principle than money. They have an HD package to accomidate the the HD fan yet with the Ticket, we have to buy all the SD garbage to get the HD games. Dumb.

Those beers & food end up costing me a LOT more then 20 bucks whenever I go watch a game with friends at a bar....and most of the time all the games aren't in HD.

I save a LOT buying it in my house then driving to a bar and spending money there

I just called and talked with regular CSR and they said that there was no charge for SuperFan. My automatic renewal started and it shows no charge for SF, just a renewal notice. However, last month both ST and SF showed renewal notices and no charge. This month my ST renewal was added in but no SF. Guess I will see how next month goes. Would be cool if they are offering it free for auto renewal.

I called to double check that my Alacarte ST will auto renew...I'm in suspension now, set to turn on Sept 1st.
They said it's at the early bird rate, and SF is free (because it's the same deal as last year)...I said thank you very much, I'll double check in Sept.

I don't care what the cost....it's the best 17 days on the calendar for us FF freaks, and overall NFL fans....it's why I've been pouring $$$ into HD for 5 years now, and building a dedicated Theater with a 110" screen.

I love ST and Superfan. I think last year I got all of three games in HD that I wanted to see. Tennessee Titans just don't rank I guess... It looks like the same this year. I think the only game tomorrow not in HD is Ten vs Jac...go figure. I love to spend money though.

I found nothing more enjoyable than when they sent me a letter stating "they were saving me the trouble of renewing ST and they would do it for me" how nice.

but, does anyone know the new mandate for all broadcasts to be in HD? I know it gets pushed everyyear, but won't this help us out when they can finally scrap the simulcast HD/SD?

I only got Sunday Ticket this year because of the promotion but the PQ on Directv already has me dreaming of cancelling next year and going back to FIOS. BTW I asked for free superfan when I got hooked up and told them all I cared about were the games in HD and instead of giving me superfan they gave me the games in HD for free, it might be worth trying to ask for that deal as opposed to asking for free superfan.

I have had NFL Sunday Ticket for the last 2 seasons. When I switched from cable to dish, the only reason I went with D* over E* was so I could get the Sunday Ticket package. When I got my HDTV and found out I had to pay an extra $99 to get my games in HD I was a little irritated and I sent an email complaining about it to D*.

In a nutshell I told them I didn't care about any of the features of Super Fan like Game Mix or Red Zone. I just wanted my games in HD! I said I would probably cancel ST for the 2008 season and maybe take a look at switching to E*. I got an email back that they would have a representative call me within 48 hours to see what they could do to resolve my issue. I got a message on my answering machine with a phone number and pin # to call them back. Talked to the guy and told him the speil above and he gave me Superfan at no charge. Was pretty easy. :)

If I renew in 2008 and don't get SF free, I will be complaining again.

By the way, my PQ on the Sunday Ticket games is awesome...very crisp and clear with hardly any macroblocking.
