View Full Version : RFoM Update Available Now!!
The upgrade and map pack are available now. :D Downloaded the upgrade, was probably one of the first...it took only about 3 minutes. Monkeyed around with my account too long to be first to download the map pack right away (remember to use your MASTER account, which I was not doing at first...couldn't figure out how to put money in my sub-account) so now it's going pretty slow...
Hm, this just in....Got an error downloading the map pack the first time.
Trying again. Will report back.
**EDIT
35 minutes later, and after 3 error messages...The map packs downloaded!! :D Now I'm off to check 'em out. Will report back later!
so's your face 06-29-07, 09:50 AM cool, i'm gonna go download right now!
riffjim4069 06-29-07, 09:53 AM Good is the maps are available....the bad news is that I will be putting in 16 hours today bringing new systems online.
dogdoctor 06-29-07, 09:59 AM thanks Kess - downloading now. And since its not obvious, you purchase the maps via the online lobby screen in Resistance. Don't go to the PS store - you won't see them there.
New maps are very cool. Lots of impressive detail. Camborne 16p is probably my favourite so far. (Forested area, but without all the tunnels underneath.) The level looks so rich and sharp, albeit somewhat dark, as it's an evening theme. Love the rain, too! With the surround sound, it feels like it's raining in my living room. :p Check out the detail on the little pine trees. You can make out each little individual needle! Very nice work. The underground tunnels...probably just going to be a shotgun-fest. Not much room to move around down there, despite how it feels like the tunnels go on forever.
Westmorland, on the other hand, is gonna take a little getting used to. Although it looks beautiful, nice winter/falling snow theme, there are just soooo many places to get sniped from. In about 20 minutes of play I was sniped at least 20 times! :p Maybe I just don't have the patience to camp out and wait for people to get into my view. In a custom game with the snipes off, I think it would be really fun. The 40 person map is HUGE! Haven't tried the smaller versions of it yet.
It's also cool to play with people from other countries! Played with a few Japanese players for an hour, and even though they didn't speak a word of English, it was still kinda neat. It's such a serious sounding language when they get worked up! Makes you feel like you have to start playing better, or they'll hurt you! :p I'm not sure if they were getting mad at me, or the opposing team!
One thing I've noticed about the new countries is that they REALLY like to 40! I know I can't judge the ENTIRE world in 4 hours of play, but so far, it's 40 crazy out there. I was hoping IG was going to give us the option of disabling those. Oh, well, maybe next patch.
Otherwise, top marks from both Sony and IG. (Despite the delays!)
instantpop 06-29-07, 01:56 PM I was really looking forward to this update...3 weeks ago. Now I don't even know if I'll download the maps that Vegas is out. I think more people would have downloaded had they came out when they were originally supposed to, just because we were all starved for something different. Vegas has arrived and I don't know if I'll ever go back to Resistance. Hard to say. The rain and snow does sound very appealing!
metrognomerical 06-29-07, 01:56 PM cant wait to get off work! im not really feeling paying for the maps, since they may make them free after a while, but I love the idea of the new snowy level. I always play sniper team deathmatches and I am so freaking tired of USS Lexington

Picture the size of the Lexington multiplied by 6! That's pretty much the size of Westmorland! You're gonna love it, if all you play are sniper deathmatches.
One thing about both new maps is trying to figure out the lifts! As silly as that sounds, they're all a little weird. Almost every time you go into a lift and think you're gonna come out somewhere, you end up just bouncing around, or floating. There was this one lift where three of us got stuck, and one my teammates 40'd the other guy, and it splattered him upside down on the lift tunnel right beside me! It was classic. Still took me about ten seconds to get out of it! :p
Now I've not been able to get back online all afternoon! :(
Anyway, someone from IG posted this on the Resistance board:
Hey guys,
We had to bring the servers back down for a last-minute fix.
They'll be back up ASAP.
Thanks,
I wonder what ASAP means, exactly? As soon as pigs fly? Could be a long wait :p
A friend and I just got back online for about ten minutes...only to be kicked out again! It's gonna be a long night! :p
IG just announced that the servers are back up. If you get the "login failed" screen, we are to keep trying apparently.
I've gotta do the supper thing, so I will try back later. God, I feel like I'm 9 years old again! Which is kinda good in a way. :p
Hey Kess, thanks for the reports. I plan to download them tonight or over the weekend and get some playing time in.
Post or send me a PM with your current screen name, I think you moved on from Kess???? Hope all is well with you.
epsilon72 06-29-07, 07:16 PM How much are the new maps?
EDIT: nevermind, $7.99.
Meh. Maybe it's the PC gamer in me, but the idea of paying four dollars per map doesn't sound too good to me. I'll pass, at least until I can get a fragFX.
Sofdec7 06-29-07, 08:17 PM Question about the map-packs..
I havent tried Resistance online yet. I've mainly stuck to single player and co-op.. can these maps be used offline or are they online-only? (I don't even know if there is an offline Vs. mode)

Yup, all the maps can be used offline...up to 4 players split screen.

The maps can be shared with up to 4 other machines. If you get your friends on it, it's not so bad.
OK, are they having problems with the servers or something?
I ran the update tonight and I have seen a few weird issues:
1)Only custom matches available are team death matches. Any other search filters render nothing.
2)It sounds like someone is voice chatting and its cutting in and out. I don't have a headset but I hear a quick noise that sounds like a person talking for a split second.
Anyone else???
MarsianMan 07-02-07, 10:25 PM Too expensive for just a few maps

How much is a movie where you live? 8 bucks? More? Say a movie lasts two hours. Did you get your money's worth? For most movies, sure. How long will a customer spend playing on the new maps? MUCH more than two hours. Probably ten times that. Do you still think 8 bucks is too much?

You can't just compare things like that...
People coming from PC FPS generally don't pay anything for new maps. And some user created maps are much better than "official" ones.
So in that context, yes, $8 is $8 too expensive.

Just curious, did you spend $60,000 on your television, which you can probably enjoy for 15,000 hours?
jkoch6599 07-03-07, 01:10 PM I haven't found anyone to share the cost, and I don't think I'm good enough that playing on different maps will really change the experience, so I decided to pass on the map pack.
Does anyone remember when Blizzard would release a new map for Starcraft for free every week?
