Since this is the section for theater seating and other cinema items, I thought it would be a good idea to see what others have done for a small side table solution when using Berkline or similar theater seats. I have a set of (3) all leather 45003's and need a very small round top table to the right side of set, but have little space to the wall. A table where the round top actually could be moved would be nice, but not 100% needed. I am mainly going to use the table to store the phone and other kick Knacks, but you know how that goes. Please post pictures and where you purchased the table. Any help appreciated.

I think most of us that have been around for a while have the "goldberg reel side tables" I know my fellow AVS/Kansas City via Olathe member came up with the idea of taking a walmart lamp stand and modding it, so a goldberg film reel could be bolted on top and there you have a film reel table (once you add the glass top). I'll see if I can locate the thread.

Also, in my gallery is a side table made from two goldberg reels..one on top and one on the bottom. Five wooden dowels (spray painted silver) fit in the reel's holes between the two reels. Sit a glass top on and you have a table.

Ron

PS: There are extensive threads on these reel tables in the archives. I'll dig up a few and repost.

How much space do you have? I have the Berkline game console, and it works great. Hide remotes, phone, etc in it. I have it placed between 2 of my chairs, but it could go anywhere. It does not have arms....

I'm not either, but it's the easiest project that one can take on. Almost as easy as putting together the store bought lamp in the first place. Ebay has good deals on goldberg reels. You can spray paint them with silver metallic paint and some wooden dowels from Home Depot and your done. How much would you pay...I'll make two and ship them to you. :D

Thanks rboster, that is exactly what I need, but I probably need to stay close to the 16" dimension on the diameter. Do you have any idea where to get those speaker stands with the adjustable height? If not do you thing Walmart still carries the floor lamp that the article points out to use? Time to start finding pieces for another project.

I've been making and selling these on fleaBay:

(search for item number 290124295670 for a complete description)

I'll have some similar ones available after this week - gotta go out-of-town to get more of those nicer glass rounds!

I use a fine imported European side table crafted from a specially formuated mix of natural ingredients which is then folded into high-strength corrugated panels and reinforced with a clear polymer seal. It's served me well for many years, and it is surprisingly inexpensive, and resistant to heat, cold, minor wetness, and nearly immune to scratches. I suppose it's not haute couture, but these models have served me well for a long time.

Those film reel tables are very nice. Of course none (any?) of use actually use film projectors in our homes. I'm curious if anyone can think of a similarly identifiable icon for this digital age. I design furniture, build funiture, and teach furniture design. I'd be happy to mock up a small end table if anyone has an idea for a modern theme. Maybe to mimic the smaller CD/DVD icon, an old laser disc could be found and used under the glass. 12" diameter but the glass top cold be larger. Heck, an old CD drive could be rigged underneath to "eject" a cup holder. Looking at my CD/DVD drive tray right now I suspect just opening up the center hole would be very close to cup-holding size. Using a thin laptop drive would minimize how thick the top would get.

Just an idea. ;-)

Tim: Really nice work on the table. I am particularly impressed with the instruction guide and pictures. I think I could even do it ;)

You could. It takes very little skill. If you can drill a hole and turn a screw you're halfway there. Getting a reel and buying the other parts are about the toughest steps as they might involve leaving the house!

Just add a piece of fabric:

Save some of the sand from your stage building project and fill each bucket a little bit and that will keep them from tipping over.

Wildfire 99, That cardboard table post was just too funny!!!

Anyway as luck would have it my mother was getting rid of a really cool small table that looks like it has a greenish marble top and dark cherry legs. I fits perfect in the area I need and looks great. I will try to find out where she bought it originally and post a picture or two for an additional option to the film reel tables.
