View Full Version : NCAA 08 Football Anticipation Thread
gte747e 06-29-07, 10:42 PM NCAA 08 Football
EA Sports
PS3
Release Date: 07-17-07
I'm excited about this game for the PS3 and I didn't find a thread, so I thought I'd start one. Does anyone have any suggestions for roster downloads?
gte747e 06-29-07, 11:20 PM I got the rosters for College Basketball 2K7 and it made me realize how much I wish I had rosters for the NCAA Football series games.
I also wish Calvin Johnson was on the cover.
gte747e 06-30-07, 12:58 AM This was an interesting thread. Since this is an anticipation thread, I thought I'd add it:
it's been confirmed that Madden 08, NCAA 08, APF 2k8 will run at 60fps on the 360, while the PS3 will only run at 30fps.
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160709
Now not only does the 360 have the advantage with rumble, achievements, and larger online player base, but also fps. There really isn't any question which version people should be going with this year. :)
Thanks for the information kinmid.
I help out at ncaaStrategies.com, a site that covers college sports games, but NCAA Football is the main focus. The site has all of the recent media up and info on free rosters as well as lots of discussion.
[Hope it's not a problem posting that link here. If so, please edit it mods.]
gte747e 06-30-07, 09:47 AM Thanks. I checked out the link and found the link to rosters. It is a great site with lots of information. I hope the 30fps of the PS3 vs 60fps XBox 360 isn't an issue.
Pikasauce 06-30-07, 11:57 AM Who really cares about fps, I mean I loved sports games on my Sega Genesis back in the day. I value gameplay any day of the week over fps.
gte747e 06-30-07, 12:29 PM I just wonder if it is possible to tell a difference between the two. That's all.
snookalo 06-30-07, 04:20 PM I really can't wait until this game comes out. I love college football. I hate the Madden games, and last years was really a stinker. NCAA is fast paced and you don't have all the bull that goes along with Madden(ala Manning going up to the line and all that crap).
gte747e 06-30-07, 04:41 PM I got the latest Madden (07 I think) for the PS3 for Christmas last year when I got my PS3, and I don't think I've played it since. I much prefer the NCAA games. I like the graphics and characterizations (looks like the actualy person) of Madden, but there's just something about college football that is more appealing.
Being that I went to a college that had no football program, DePaul, I wish they would add the create-a-program feature back in. Maybe in 2 or 3 more years, right EA?
rizzxx7 07-01-07, 09:21 AM this better not be like the ps3 madden or I'm done with EA. They should just improve the product and not totally redo it like they did with madden, which ruined it for most people.
gte747e 07-01-07, 02:49 PM What is it that people dislike so much about last year's Madden?
Krieger119 07-01-07, 03:06 PM Buttons, commentary, the whole interface ... hmm, pretty much every aspect of Madden 07 for the PS3.
snookalo 07-01-07, 03:21 PM I've never really liked madden anyway, much less last years version. It's always seem to play too slow for me. I'm really just more of a college football fan. I like the "real" game better so I, in turn, like the "fake" game better. I like recruiting players, building them up and having year after year my team just being a juggernaut. Where when one guy graduates another fills his shoes without missing a beat. It's harder to build a dominant team when I'm worrying about the salary cap and all that junk. I wanna recruit 'em, take 'em to the strip clubs, use 'em up, and then send them off, just to break the records they set a few years later.
Krieger119 07-01-07, 03:23 PM Yea, I was never really into the college football games but this NCAA Football 08 is a definite must buy for me ... can't wait. And YES, PS3 VERSION - 30 frames n' all.
FYI, the demo is scheduled for tomorrow. I'm guessing that means the 360 version....perhaps PS3 on Wednesday in the wave of E3 info.
gamble1177 07-09-07, 07:12 PM cant wait for it then.
Pikasauce 07-09-07, 07:47 PM Just so I have a reference, what fps are motorstorm and R:FOM?

Pretty sure that both are 30 FPS.
roland6465 07-09-07, 10:08 PM This is why I bought the PS3 last week.
dpe8598 07-10-07, 12:03 AM I'm thinking roster downloads are going to be very easy with all of the connection options on the PS3.

Has anyone downloaded rosters onto their PS3 before? Like do you just use the web browser to download them?
talbain 07-10-07, 11:29 AM This is why I bought the PS3 last week.
you bought a ps3 for a multi-platform ncaa football game? wow
roland6465 07-10-07, 12:53 PM ^ yup. I've been on the fence in the BD/HDDVD thing, but the fact that this one was coming out this month is why I chose BD & PS3.

I have 2 friends that bought PS3s in the last month just for the football games. Obviously they were also happy to try out BD.

Unfortunately, we can't download file saves from the web browser. However, you can use a USB drive, put the file on it from your CPU, then put it in the PS3 and transfer it over.
ruffnexx 07-10-07, 07:53 PM Does anyone know if the PS3 version will support rumble in preparation for the upcoming PS3 rumble controller?
Krieger119 07-10-07, 08:59 PM Just played the 360 demo ... definitely going to pass ... nothing worth spending my money especially with HS and Lair on its way. What a letdown I was really looking forward to this game.
Just so I have a reference, what fps are motorstorm and R:FOM?
60 FPS

yeah. i'm thinking you weren't really into the game from the outset. the 360 demo is great. far better (demo-wise) than last year's game and smooth as hell.
hopefully sony/ea will get their act together and release a demo for ps3 so i can do a direct a/b comparison before next week...
60 FPS
I went through and found some links to confirm the final FPS for each game:
Motorstorm at 30 FPS (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156337)
RFOM at 30 FPS (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/729/729630p1.html)
talbain 07-11-07, 10:15 AM 60 FPS
resistance is NOT 60 fps. it's locked at 30. actually i don't think motorstorm is either...

Not to be a pessimistic A-hole but EA sure has been dropping the ball lately. Their games have been rather large pieces of $h!t imo. I would wait on purchasing NCAA until some reviews come out. Madden '07 for the ps3 was possibly the worst madden I've seen/played in a long long time. I will be holding off on madden '08 until i get some serious reviews. (I've been a madden fan and played online for a long time, but the "next-gen" consoles have "crap-gen" games, and the new engines they built for the next gen consoles are horrible)

All I can say is that NCAA 08 on the 360 does not look or feel good at all to me. I'm hoping for more from Madden.

Sports games have never felt good on the 360 or the original XBox. The controls and its controllers have always felt funny. The 360 controllers are a little better though, which made it at least purchaseable. Still, I can't imagine running a option play on the 360

I'm not talking about the controller, I'm saying the game feels like crap and its actually supposed to run smoother on the 360.
The only thing I really hate about the 360 controller is the dpad, it sux.

Both are 30fps. The human eye can't differentiate between the two anyway. 30fps is smoother framerate than movies and film. The only problem is if it drops, you'll notice, but if they can lock it it will run just as smooth as 60fps.
Framerates have been turned into such a bloated term in the videogame market, it started as bragging rights for video card capabilities in the PC market (where it might actually matter, since framerate bounces all over on those systems, the higher the average the better) and now is being used as a selling point in console games. Kinda silly really.

QFT. Framerate stability is far more important than peak framerate.
Of course Id rather be locked in at 60, rather than 30, but I would much rather be locked in at 30 than get variance with a peak of 60.
This is a rental for me as all the gaming goodness coming out is making me extremly picky about what i'm going to buy. Has it been confirmed that the PS3 version can use Roster Updates downloaded off the internet and transfered to the PS3 via flash drive? I know the 360 cannot.

Dang thats messed up for 360 owners. I know local hobby shop that sold PS2 memory cards with every NCAA game sold for the PS2. I sure hope somebody posts the rosters for the PS3
gte747e 07-16-07, 09:38 PM In one of the earlier posts in this thread, someone suggested NCAA Strategies (http://www.ncaastrategies.com) and click on Rosters. They are free, but I don't know how soon they will be published. If anyone else has a link to rosters, please post.

It's MUCH more messed up that the PS3 is only 30 fps while the 360 is 60 fps...that was the deal breaker for me--and yes, doubling the framerate makes a huge difference to my eyes.

Microsoft decided to make the 360 an entirely closed system. You have to use their overpriced hard drive, their overpriced memory cards, their overprice headsets, their overpriced wireless accessories, and the only game add-ons you can get have to be purchased only from your region of Live. Since creating an accurate roster pack would probably get Microsoft in hot water with NCAA, 360 gamers will either have to do the rosters themselves, or live with QB #7.
I don't think the PS3 Unreal Tournament 3's feature of using PC mods on the PS3 is going to happen on the 360 except as paid add-on content coming over live. :(
This is easily my biggest gripe with the 360.
Sony has really shocked me with how open they made the PS3. You can install any OS, plug in any SATA 5400 RPM Laptop drive, use pretty much any blue tooth headset and 3rd party controllers, flash drives instead of memory cards (unless a game specifically prohibits it), and a Region Free Online Store.
gte747e 07-17-07, 01:53 PM Finally got the game!!!
