View Full Version : Should I or Should I not, that is the questions.
disbthai 06-30-07, 10:03 PM Thinking about getting PS3 but I have a couple of questions for those who already has one.
1. Get it now or wait for second generation? as it worked out all the bugs 1st generation has.
2. Heat/Noises issue? I currently own a Xbox 360, when its power on, man does it make a lot of noises. Its getting to the point, I rather just shut it off. Does it over heat like Xbox 360 ?
3. Does it work with all formats DVD - + R, DVD - + RW CD-R, CD-RW. AVI, WMA, VCD, SVCD, bin/cue file.
Please comment on those are having the same questions about PS3. thanks

1. Decide for yourself, you must. Sony is doing regular updates to fix bugs. The next version of the PS3 may cost less and it may not include the emotion engine which gives better PS2 compatibility.
2. It puts off a fair amount of heat. About the same as a high performance PC. It is quieter than the 360 but louder than my HD DVD player. Overheating is not an issue as long as you keep it in a ventilated area. Don't put it in a small cabinet without adding ventilation.
3. I've only played DVD, BD, SACD discs. It plays all of those fine.
jayoldschool 06-30-07, 10:46 PM It doesn't do AVI yet, but it now does WMA - there is an option in the XMB to enable it.
The longer you wait, the less time you will enjoy it! I have no regrets. After I bought it, I was amazed, but I wished it could do a few more things. Almost all those wishes have come true with the frequent updates. I can only imagine how good this thing will be a year from now. In that time, I will keep enjoying it.
It looks very well built, and I have heard few stories of failure.

There are no real issues at this point.
Yet, if you don't care about Oblivion, F1 CE, MotorStorm, Resistance or Vegas, you can wait until November to buy it.
At that time, you'll get Lair, WarHawk, Heavenly Sword, Assassin Creed, Uncharted, Haze, Clive Barker's Jericho, Eye of Judgment, Home, Monster Madness, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and a few other...maybe even MGS 4 and GT HD...
FrankJ.Cone 07-01-07, 08:25 AM Its summer, if you have waited this long IMHO you should wait for the holiday season. There is nothing on PS3 thats going to be a $600 experience right now for most gamers. As Dralt said more exclusives are planned for the holiday season and just about everyone seems to expect a price drop for the holida season. Waiting could mean the difference ebtween $600 for a system and $600 for a system and two games. (Maybe even rumble by then!)

It does get rather hot, so I just got an intercooler to see how that works. I don't know if I should be alarmed by the level of heat. I know on my computer the heat of my HDDs is scary.
Yet, if you don't care about Oblivion, F1 CE, MotorStorm, Resistance or Vegas, you can wait until November to buy it. The darkness and sigma you can get last week and this week. Also, more games start in August, but almost all games of the year come out September and October.
Thrillhouse17 07-01-07, 11:48 AM I say get one now for 2 reasons:
The current PS3s do backwards compatibility via hardware, whereas the future ones will do it via emulation. (Less reliable)
Sony is offering 5 free Blu-Ray movies (you choose from a list) with each blu-ray player sold. This includes the PS3.
There may not be many games currently out, but you can bet that in the next couple months you'll see a steady stream.
isaidme 07-01-07, 12:56 PM As the other stated above, there really is a low percentage of bad consoles. If you would like to take advantage of the online promotion and get your five free BRs then nows a good time. However if your a heavy gamer and is not worried abot movies as much then you would be better off waiting untill October or November.
