changing volumes drive me crazy. So far, I guess what I am looking for is software that will analyse and normalize the volume of different recordings. Any one got a clue?

or right from within Vista WMP:

Library -> Options -> Monitor Folders

[x] Add volume-leveling values for all files (slow)
