Can somebody please confirm that the USB is used only for transfering still pictures from the memorystick to teh computer. ( And that *no* video can be transfered through USB )
( My older Sony HC42 could transfer lower quality video though its USB )

This is correct. You need to use the ilink (firewire) port for video.

IEEE 1394 standard (I.Link for Sony, Fireware for Apple) should be used for transferring digital video ( especially HDV video).
USB can be used for transferring stills.
I believe you "can" transfer video thru USB. But you don't really want to do it.

I believe you "can" transfer video thru USB. But you don't really want to do it. Not with a Sony... or most other tape HD cams. HDD cams do however work with USB.... but they don't "capture". Instead files are merely copied from one HDD to another, just like any other external HDD.
