Here is a new preview of Home. Home is a real-time online 3D, networked community available on the Playstaion Network(PSN). Continue

It allows PS3 users to interact, communicate, join online games, shop, share private content and even build and show off their own personal spaces to others in real time. Home will be available as a free download from the PLAYSTATION®Store and will launch directly from XMB (XrossMediaBar) on PS3.

Sharing continues in the “Hall of Fame,” where users can display new 3D trophies that will be unlocked through in-game milestones for the games they own as well viewing the trophies of other users across the PLAYSTATION Network and for other games they’ve yet to purchase.

So even though Sony is going to offer its version of "Achievements" are they going to make it required for developers to take advantage of it?

I'm not sure why I'm looking forward to this so much. But I am. I check every couple of days to see if it shows up in my store, but nothing. Only the Warhawk beta showed up...

If they do, people will say they should not.
If they don't, people will say they should.

I don't care.

If true, then apparently MS did something right with the Achievement system.

Once you get in you'll REALLY not be sure why you looked forward to it so much. Trust me on that one.

Warhawk RULES RULES RULES though!

No, it simply means that we're a fickle bunch.

I still don't see why people get hung up over game achievements. I guess it's like forum post count?

Well, I guess it depends on how important is for you and how many hour of your time are you putting on this. Some people seem to be pretty serious on getting and beating every game out there, and if you are going to do that probably you want some kind of accomplishment tracking system. I only game around 5 hours per week, and it's pretty low in my priority list so this doesn't really matter to me (I probably won't accomplish much :o ), but I can understand why some people want it.

Just like the PS3 did HDMI and 1080p right which M$ subsequently added to there systems after launch.

Yup!

I don't see the big deal about showing off your trophies. I promise I will never go and view any other dudes trophy room, because I could care less about them.

Let's be honest, we think everyone cares about our trophies, but its only to make YOU feel good. kinda like ringtones. No one cares about your stupid new ringtone! :)

some people go onto facebook and myspace daily and change their "mood" or background music / picture etc. I am not one of those people but I know several who are.

Home is going to appeal to a great number of people in this way, but like all MMO community interfaces, its benifits will be directly tied to the number of people who use it.

If you don't like achievements/trophies why do you have to hate? Let those that enjoy it have it. Let those that care about scores have their fun. Why do you have to get onto a forum and complain that something is being added to a game? No one is requiring you to get them. Let fun be fun.

It might be a good idea for Sony not only to display trophies for the games you played/beat but also maybe give some credit as virtual cash for every game you buy/levels finished so gamers can buy more crap for their virtual apartments a look more "virtually" cool. That would make people who are into that to spend even more money and time in the PS3.

I am sure it was a strategic decison, get the console out ASAP (it ended up being 1 year earlier) thus establishing a fanbase and then build upon it. 1080p was enabled with an update, and those that 'need' HDMI can get an elite (i do not think HDMI 1.3 was out in 2005). Those that wanted an HD drive bought the add on. Currently, it has worked in MS favor.

sony isnt requiring devs to use it rom what ive read. thats the gonna be the thing thats gonna bite sony in the ass in the long run. they're not standardizing everything. theyre gonna have a trophy/acheivement, unified friends list, and gamer score; but from everything ive read none of it is required to be used by devs

Although it is not required, I would think most developers would put in some sort of trophy or gamerscore into their games. From a programming standpoint, putting that stuff in takes minimal work compared to the game itself. Also I'm sure developers notice that games on the Xbox 360 get a great boost in sales sometimes based on nothing more than the achievements within (crappy games like TMNT, the 3 BK games, etc. etc.)

The only devs who perhaps wouldn't put that stuff in would be the lazy ones, i.e. maybe the devs that create the travesties that are movie-licensed games and should the sales of those games suffer as a result, I'm all for it. I'm tired of crappy games that take little creativity and work selling a million copies, while true gems that devs have poured their hearts into like Okami get overlooked.

Is that guy doing the narration SUPPOSED to be the most annoying person on the entire planet?

Sad as it is, I'm hooked on achievements. I love playing a game to the fullest to get maximum achievements. So much I don't turn my PS3 on, I'd rather be working to an achievement on the 360.

I think Sony would be nuts not to implement something similar. It's not like you actually have to pay attention to them if you don't like the idea.

I like the way he said the Motorstorm Trophy was not random, but the actual way his car looked crossing the finish line on the event he won it. That's cool.
