I have a problem. I have a NEC DP-1200A Multisync data proj system.
In the process of having it repairedwe found out the service remote which is needed to calibrate it does not work.
1. Does anyone know how I can get a service remote for this? I have looked on EBAY and around the net and found nothing.
2. Is it true that you need the service remote to calibrate it? Can it be done any other way??

Thanks alot for any help

There is a file for ProntoNEO over at Remote Central for the projector:

http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/files/rcfiles.cgi?area=neo&db=devices&br=nec&dv=projector&md=dp1200a&kw=dp-1200a&st=&ar=&dt=&so=&pg=1&file=neo/ncf_templates/projector/nec-proj-dp1200a.zip

However, you don't necessarily need to get ProntoNEO to use that file. I don't have the projector, but the file indicates that it uses NEC1 protocol with device number 24, subdevice 247. You can get an inexpensive remote from UEI, like URC-8820 which has that protocol built in, and use its advanced code function to reprogram all the keys to the functions of the projector.

For example, to setup TV device key to the projector and reprogram the power key:
1. Press and release TV device key
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 0497

This sets the device code for TV to 0497 which matches the protocol used in the file above. However, none of the keys are correctly set for the correct functions, and they have to be individually programmed (some keys might randomly match some functions, like "1" key might trigger "VID-1", and so on). To reprogram:
1. Press and release TV device key
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 994
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 00053
6. Press and release POWER
The remote should blink twice and the POWER button should be set to correct function (Power on/off toggle).

If you have cable TV, some remotes that come with the set top box is made by the same company and has this capability. For example, Comcast silver remote, some Cox remote (URC-7820), and Atlas 5 DVR remote can do this.

If you want to try this route, I'll post the rest of the function numbers extracted from the ProntoNEO file above.

In addition, if you get a JP1.x or JP1 cable (depending on the model of the remote), it can be used to connect the remote a computer to program all the keys using the computer to upload to the remote and avoid a lot of key punching on the remote. You can read about the cable and software to use here (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1009). You can also use the information above to create hex codes for other Pronto remotes or other PC programmable remotes like URC remotes.

So if I do get that Pronto remote and use that file to program it it will work
as a replacement for the orig service remote?
That seems like the easiet to do and less complex.

That file is for ProntoNEO, which uses different file format and software from other Pronto remotes. But, yes, it seems like it would. As I've mentioned, I don't have the projector, so I can't test to see if it correct, but NEC1 24.247 is a protocol NEC has used in some other projectors. I only mentioned UEI remotes since it would be significantly less expensive (~$20, or ~$40 with cable as opposed to ~$100, I think), although it would be more work, as you guessed.

You can see the functions included in that file by opening it with ProntoNEO program you can download from Remote Central:
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/files/rcfiles.cgi?area=neo&db=other&br=programs&dv=philipsprontoneo&md=prontoneov207&kw=&st=&ar=&dt=&so=&pg=1&file=neo/software/NEOeditSetup_207.zip

For some reason, I can't seem to see the button labels using that software, but you can see it in the property window for each button, to see if it includes all the functions that are in the original service remote.

Thaks for the help. I don't know alot about the inner workings of the projector so when you talk about protocol and such its way over my head.
That is why I would rather spend $100 - $200 to get this to work cause it beats going out and spending $2000 on a whole new system. The projector we have is good, it just needs to be calibrated.
I also have no experiance with these kind of remotes.
Im assuming this remote connects to a computer and the file is downloaded onto it.
I am a computer guy and confident I can figure this all out if I have to.
