Two questions:
I just purchased one of these devices at Sam's Club this weekend. Solid build, intuitive set up and operation, easy disk formating and finalizing .... its a good product ..... except ..... there's a section on page 32 of the manual that explains how to use an "IR Blaster" to allow the Samsung hand controller to operate my DCT6400 STB. The manual is clear that the procedure they list to configure the DVR to operate the STB "may not work for all STBs." It requires using box codes (there are several listed in the manual for Motorola STBs) and experimenting until you find the codes that work. None of them do although it appears three of them (ending in 176) do something. After several tries, the procedure does not seem to work as the Samsung DVR controller will not operate the STB - change channels, volume, power off/on - which is all one would seem to need.
Has anyone tried to use this function on any Samsung DVRs combined with the Motorola DCT6400 series STBs and been successful? I can live without it, it would be nice if I just had to use one controller instead of two though. Ideas?
In setting up the DVR, I elected to use the STB's s-video output to the DVR enroute to the TV. The picture (video) displays and records fine through the DVR. However, there is only one set of audio out jacks on the 6400 STB. I'm running component video from the STB to the TV and the audio out jacks on the STB are hooked up directly from the STB to the TV for combined component audio/video feed to that source. Can I split the audio out jacks to allow me to have one set of jacks going to the TV and the the other going to the DVR for S video/audio feed to that source? Where can I get a splitter (Radio Shack) ??? Other options I haven't thought of yet???? Thanks
