View Full Version : Stir Crazy Aficionados - Thermal Inertia Question

OK - here's the situation. I have a Stir Crazy - 8 qt. I really love the convenience of this little unit, and with the Megapop packs, it makes some great popcorn. I don't really want to "pop" for a large tabletop concession style unit with a warming tray - but I'm trying to figure out an inexpensive way to keep the popcorn warm. It seems like 2 minutes after its out of the Stir Crazy unit and in a bucket or bag, its pretty lukewarm. I'm guessing that with a concession style unit, the freshly popped corn would also cool down rather quickly, but the warming tray heats up the popcorn all the way through prior to serving, giving it a bit more thermal inertia (for all the engineers out there). Any ideas on an inexpensive way to impart the thermal inertia with my setup?? Perhaps a way to buy or make an inexpensive warming tray???

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I have heard that some guys put the popcorn on cookie sheets or baking trays and heat it in the over for a few minutes. That will heat up the popcorn and help dry it out so it is nice and crisp. I always let my popcorn sit for a while on the warming tray so that it is not so 'chewy'.

What he said. Its a little soggy from the inherent steam when it pops right out. Put it in the oven for a few minutes at 200 and it will warm up and dry out. MMMmmmm. Think I will go make some right now.

Thanks - I'll give this a try.
