ive heard it runs an Xbox but ive yet to hook up my Xbox Elite to try it out for sure. have to wait till Fri when my 805 shows up.
any1 use this remote with their PS3 ? or know for sure ? the logitech site is rather vague ("runs thousands of devices").
thnx much
Improvolone 07-02-07, 11:30 PM PS3 uses bluetooth, not IR or RF.
So, not really, no. Unless you want to use the IR adapter meant for the PS2.
remoteshoppe 07-02-07, 11:56 PM You don't need to get the IR adapter for the PS2 anymore. A company called Nyko makes a USB IR adapter for the PS3 that I have for $19 and it will allow you to teach the IR commands to your Harmony remote. More info at http://www.remoteshoppe.com/index.php?itemid=423
Hankkingsly 07-03-07, 12:53 AM thanks for the hookup . i just ordered one now . next question does the 880 just read the IR source and do its thing or is there some sort of workaround ?
Unless you have an IR adapter for the PS/3, there is no work-around for controlling it by IR. It is a Bluetooth controlled device. Seeing as I have a Mac Mini in the same cabinet, I've been toying with the idea of making the Mac serve as a Bluetooth remote for the PS/3, and control the Mac by IR, but it's just an idle idea at this point.
That Nyko looks like just the ticket, though! I'm gonna get me one of those, I think.
If anyone has it, can you tell me if it has the "pop-up menu" and "time" buttons? Those are nice on the Bluetooth remote, and can't be sent from the SixAxis controller, so the text about "emulates all commands on the Sixaxis controller" made me wonder.
MikeSRC 07-04-07, 12:18 PM Here's the list of buttons on the Nyko remote from the thread in the Blu-ray forum:

It does not have buttons for audio and popup menu.
I should have a file for use with URC remotes ready to post sometime tomorrow.
That list just about does it. When I programmed the Harmony 880, I believe at first I called it a PS3, which convenienly brought up it's stored similar list of commands from it's database. However, of course, I needed to learn each one.
The navigational commands needed to be learned a few times for accuracy as it was going through the XMB too fast per click. (then too slowly or not at all)
We watched a DVD last night and it's perfect for that.
My only issue is that I can't get that "hyper-super scrolling" through the menus which comes in handy when your accessing a picture folder with hundreds of other folders. I need to use the controller (or the actual Nyko remote, although I plan on putting it away) to do that.
Although the Nyko docs say to put away the USB/IR dongle when not in use, I don't plan on removing it every session.
Is it OK to leave it in all the time?
I bought the Nyko about a month and a half ago and have left the dongle in ever since with only 1 side effect...if I want to play a game the controller will auto assign itself to #2 since the dongle seems to be registered as #1. other than that, everything is good.
Thanks Chris. That's strange though because my 2 Sixaxis controllers seem to still be 1 and 2 respectively.
I noticed also that when using the PS3 to play a PS2 game, if you try to send a command it does not work and the USB dongle begins to angrily flash red until you're back in the XMB.
Cherokee180c 08-08-07, 01:15 PM I have the Nyko remote as well and am only disappointed with the lack of power and PS buttons on the remote. The funny thing is that there must be an IR code for the power on/off because mine has accidently turned on before when going through the Harmony help screens when my Vista PC got out of synch on the power toggle. I have been unable to isolate the exact command however, but I did repeat the test and found that it did in fact turn on due to some command that was similar. Can anybody else post on if their PS3 has in fact turned on unexpectedly. I would really like to isolate the power on/off commands from something that I could learn into the PS3 profile to complete the control of the PS3. Did the old Sony PS2 remote include power on/off and does it work with the PS3?

No and No. The PS2 remote also doesn't work with the Nyko dongle, only the PSX/PS2 Controller to USB adapter. I haven't found a command to turn on the PS3 yet, so if you come across one that could be learned, it would be greatly appreciated.

The reason why the power command is such a problem is because the IR devices all require the USB dongle and there is no power to the PS3's USB ports while the device is off. This is the same reason you can't re-charge your sixaxis controller without power to the ps3. The only way to turn the PS3 on remotely is via Bluetooth so I'm still faithful to the idea that someone (RTI, URC, please) is going to make an IR/RF to Bluetooth converter. How great would it be to have a Bluetooth Blaster that could control the PS3 and other devices that are sure to come.
Cherokee180c 08-10-07, 07:43 AM Remote,
Your point makes a lot of sense and may be why Nyko did not include power on/off, but why did they not include the PS button, which could have easily been used to turn the system off? Lastly, I swear to God that my PS3 turned on by itself 2 separated times when troubleshooting my Vista PC through the assistant on the Harmony 1000. That would seem impossible if there were no power at all. Is there anything else that can turn on the PS3 randomly? Maybe RF interferece between Zwave and Bluetooth as the H1000 uses Zwave to communicate to the RF extender.
Lastly, I may be mistaken, but I thought you could charge up the controllers through the USB port with the unit off if you started the charging originally with it on? The charge lasts so long in the controllers and I use the system so little for gaming that I can't remember now. You now have me very curious and I need to do some testing this weekend.
