Just for fun, decided to try this new version...

To start off, tried converting a MKV h264 AVC dd.5.1, to TS with version .85...

The TS files played on Tvix, but only had sound, no picture..

Sooo..

For fun tried the .86 verison, and WOW,, got picture and sound in perfect sync all way thru movie on Tvix..

This being said, does this new version have corrected audio files for DTS to DD?? if not, what files do I have to copy from .85 corrected audio files to this new one?

Doing more testing with this new version on MKV files had problems in past...

Ok....for those that want MKV2TS V.86 with corrected files....here ya go...

http://rapidshare.com/files/44687991/MKV2TSv86_with_corrected_files.rar.html

86 has a bug and it does not delete the audio file are it has finished remuxing....but....if you have a Tvix, there maybe files that this version works best for on the Tvix....i dont have one, so I cant say, but give it a try.

Last night i finally managed to convert an mkv to ts (mostly cuz i've been too lazy to get another mkv file sooner :P) with version .85, and in the first 4 minutes i have no choppyness or video pausing... Must say that I did a dance of joy :D I'll convert and try some more movies this week and let you know how they turn out!

Its supposed to be if you want to mux into an MP4 container...but it doesn't work.

I can confirm that the version 86 I have posted here is better than v.85....I had about 5 MKV's that would not sync with .85, so I had to mkv2vfr>avi.....but.....86 works fine on those problem MKV's...

We should put our computers together.

Using version .85 to convert a MKV h264 AVC dd.5.1, to TS I get a file that plays on TVix, but I get only picture, no sound....just the opposite of what you get.

This stuff is weird. I'll try version .86 and hope for better.

I have been having good success with .86 thus far, but ran into a file that the TS played on tvix, but had only Audio, no video..

So..

Will try .85 again to see IF i get both..

Can't wait for TSREMUX.... :)

I've had this problem with .86 aswell... I tried the file again, and now i have both audio and video... Seems to me there's some sort of a bug in version .86, but so far it hasn't dissapointed me yet...

I am still getting video freezing for a few seconds while the audio carrys on playing. this happens all versions of mkv2ts :( yet downloaded .ts files play fine. Why is this only happening to me? could the internal hd be faulty or something else going on?
I hate this Tvix :(

Rich...I dont have a Tvix....so any help I can offer is general:

Are you playing back files from an internal drive?...or an external USB drive...try both....

Are you haveing any issues with other file types?

Does pausing the file extend the time between pauses?

It sounds like the problem i've been having too... In my case i think it had to do with the files i was trying to convert... I've been able to convert a few files succesfully, however there are also files that keep acting up in the way you specify. Maybe you could try some other input file(s)?

Same problem here with my tvix. The converted file plays fine, but every so often the file just freezez and continues after 5-15 seconds.
I also get wrong duration time on the tvix, a 2 hour movies shows as 2h5min, with the pauses the movie lasts for 2h5m.

All other compatible file types are ok, Its just the mkv's I have converted.
They are all playing off the internal hdd (although I have also tried via nfs and samba-- same result).

Heres are just a few movies I have converted

Joe black (720p)
Terminator 2 (720p)
Terminator 3 (1080p) I know this wouldnt work but thought sod it any way!
We were soldiers (720p)
Planet of the apes (720p)

Not sure what to say...I've done a couple of those movies and have no problems...however, If I owned a Tvix...I'd be lobbying them to make tweaks to the firmware...As I have done with Tomacro....

I have done several MKV's,(including Joe Black) and have seen this problem many times..(over network)

However,

when I burn them to a DVD-r (and use my usb dvd-rom drive connected to tvix), or use my external USB HDD, they play perfect, no freezing..

I have however, ran into some files that when converted, you get a freeze (both audio and video), while counter continues to count up.. Then, the video/audio starts to play again..

On these files, it happens on dvd-r, HDD, network...

So those files are indeed converted bad.. Even my pioneer blu-ray player (has built in media player), freezes on these files...

One last problem I have seen, on bad converted files, you will see the video speed up (like you were FF the video), for a few seconds, then video contines to play perfect..

Thes also do it on my pioneer... So any of these weird problems are NOT TVIX FAULT... just the conversion...

I figure, if my TVIX, and Pioneer media server(two totally different beasts, one with the sigma .23 chip, and the pioneer with .34 chip) do the same error on the same files, then the conversion is to blame..

My pionner, however, does not get the freeze frame problem(where audio contines, then video starts again), over the network.. It uses UPNP, not NFS... :confused:

The video freeze and speedup that you refer to normally means the MKV was encoded via VFR. As the remuxer reads the timings to the files, when it nits them back together, it gives it a timestamp...so when playing back...you get video freeze with audio playing, or video speedup....as the Tvix tries to read the timestamp and keep the A/V in sync.....with these files, i just use MKV2VFR>AVI and that sorts the issue out.....Now I remember a while back, that Divco said they will support any file format/enocode that the LimHD can play......hence my comment about you Tvix owners needing to apply a little pressure on them and hold them to their word!...

just my 2 cents.

Thanx again for the awesome info.. :)

Do you know of any program that can tell me if the MKV is VFR? as this would be awesome, and save time, so I don't try to convert those files...

Do you think that TSREMUX will have problems with VFR files? or 1080 stuff..??

Thanx again.. :)

As this time, I'm not sure how to tell a CFR from a VFR.....I just try MKV2TS 1st, and if it's not playing properly, then I just the MKV2VFR>AVI method.

Re TSremux....it's gone silent for the moment on MKV....so I dont know what method he will use for mkv to ts. If he reads the timestamps for both audio and video at container level and just muxes straight into TS, theres a good chance his method will solve the VFR issue...but who knows. 1080p, that will depend on the Tvix...

Right now, if MKV2TS gives you problems, 99% of the time, MKV2VFR >AVI will solve it...so lobby Divco to support the AVI file that MKV2VFR produces...Tomacro did...

Well, not completely OK for me, still waiting for DViCo to support mkv or MKV2VFR avi's ;)

I've noticed that my video freezes mostly happen with hddvd rips, bluray rips usually work now though... For now I'm happy knowing that I CAN play some 720p movies, and I remain hopeful that either MKV2TS, TSRemux or DViCo come up with a definitive solution in the end.

Yeah, if i had known about the (somewhat) crappy customer service i think i would've given the TViX some more thought, but nevertheless: i'm happy with the device, it does most of what it's supposed to do ;). They have been working on new firmware lately over at DViCo's, but this last one is about fixing some other bugs first... We'll see where it goes from here :)

I tried converting a ts that wouldn't play properly to WMV-HD... I might use that method as a very last resort if the file plays properly, but it takes waaay to long to use on a regular basis (10h for a 1h45m movie)...

Sure am... Before i had this media streamer i only watched divx/xvid anyway and it plays that without any probz... Found out yesterday my 10h conversion to WMV-HD didn't go as planned either... It had no sound :( But that has nothing to do with the TViX, probably some faulty codec on my pc :D

Does anyone know how to convert a regular subtitle file to a subtitle file that will play in sync with a 720p/1080i/1080p MKV movie file (maybe decreasing the frame rate)?

mkvmerge's man page says this...

For text subtitles you can either use some Windows software (like SubRipper) or the subrip package found in transcode(1)'s sources (in contrib/subrip). The general process is:

1. extract a raw subtitle stream from the source:
$ tccat -i /path/to/copied/dvd/ -T 1 -L | \
tcextract -x ps1 -t vob -a 0x20 | \
subtitle2pgm -o mymovie

2. convert the resulting PGM images to text with gocr:
$ pgm2txt mymovie.

3. spell-check the resulting text files:
$ ispell -d american *txt

4. convert the text files to a SRT file:
$ srttool -s -w -i mymovie.srtx -o mymovie.srt

The resulting file can be used as another input file for mkvmerge:

$ mkvmerge -o mymovie.mkv mymovie.avi mymovie.srt

When you say the source, do you mean the original BluRay or HDDVD disc? If that's correct, then I'm out of luck as I only have the ripped MKV file. I download the regular subtitle file from the internet, some of which run at 23.997 fps and some run at 30fps. That's why I need a way to manipulate the regular subtitle file to work with the MKV file.

Thanks for taking the time and reply. Appreciate your help.

Some ripped MKV files don't have subs and I would like to insert the subs in there, but I don't have the original BluRay or HDDVD disc. Some MKV files are captured from HDTV which don't have subs either.

mkv can hold multiple subtitles at a time. You should be able to just add your additional subtitles using mkvmerge. I'd read the manual for the specific options.

What method are you guys using to split large TS files (that were created from MKV2TS), to several smaller files??

I have convert several MKV to TS using .86 version of mkv2ts, but find that when I use my normal programs to split the TS files, the split parts (every files after the 1st one), play, but only have audio, no video.. This is true on Tvix, and computer, using media player, nero, etc...

The first file plays perfect on all devices...

I have tried "nullpacketstripper", and TSsplitter...

What am I doing wrong??

If I try other TS files I download for testing, they work perfect... only with mkv2ts, do I have these issues...

Thanx.. :)
