Hey guys,

I just got a PS3 a few days ago and have been playing around with my TV's settings. For some reason I have found that Layer Cake looks too bright and washed out when using settings which look perfect for other Blu-Ray movies (Casino Royale).

Not sure if I am doing something wrong here.

EDIT:

Using firmware 1.82.

Output - Automatic
RGB - Full
Super White - On

I watched that last night and there were some scenes that looked washed out. It reminded me of War of the Worlds as far as the look in some scenes. I guess it could have been intentional.

Not the best looking movie out there.

it was filmed that way, even the SD dvd looks kinda like that.

Yeah, I found this a pretty ugly looking movie. Also, I noticed a lot of aliasing compared with other BD titles.

Shouldn't you be using:
Output: YCbCr
RGB: Limited
Super White: On

Or were the RGB Full problems that made it worse than setting it to Limited fixed in the latest firmware?

EDIT: Try changing it to the settings I listed.

It's the look of the movie unfortunately. Not one of the best looking Blu-ray releases IMO.

Actually, I think Layer Cake looks really good.... but you do have to adjust your brightness for this one.

Yep, look of the movie.

I remember when it came out and some reviews stated it had deep inky blacks...they must have been watching a blank image because Layer Cake sure doesn't have "deep inky blacks"...I laughed when I watched it and read the reviews saying something that is totally opposite of reality.

FWIW I thought the PQ of LC was decent but nowhere near the lovefest some gave it.

Watching on a JVC RS1 here with 106" diag image.

It's weird though. If you lower the brightness a fair bit below normal levels it looks pretty damn good.

HD POP and all.
