View Full Version : Harmony 880 back to version 7.0 software?
l2bengtrek 07-03-07, 11:47 AM Hey guys.
I am using a Harmony 880 and remote software 7.3. Can I uninstall it and install 7.0 that came with the remote on a CD? The reason I ask is that I'm pretty sure that 7.3 is causing an error message to pop up on one of my computers that I have an "IP conflict on my network" and sometimes the other computer I have the software loaded on doesn't want to connect to the logitech website. It's strange..I can get to other websites and get to the internet, just have the error message and the quirky response from the logitech website. I have a sneaking suspision that the software is causing it because it didn't start untill I installed it about a week ago.
Back to my original question, Can I uninstall 7.3 and install the older 7.0? Will all of my remote configurations stay intact?
Thanks!
schroedk 07-03-07, 12:22 PM Yes, you can do that. Just uninstall the software you've got in your computer in the "add/remove programs" section of your control panel. When that's completed, just reinstall the 7.0 version from your disc. You'll probably be prompted when you first run it to "update", but you should be able to say no and deactivate the automatic upgrade option in the program.
Edit: Didn't see your last question. The answer is yes, your configuration will stay intact. The settings are saved not on your own computer, but on Logitech's. This is why you use a username and password to get in.
l2bengtrek 07-03-07, 01:25 PM Great. Thank you!
Kinda what I thought but didn't know since all of my configuring was done to this point using 7.3 if it would conflict when I would try to log-on using 7.0.
Does it look different than 7.3? Do you know what the differences are?
schroedk 07-03-07, 01:37 PM I think the UI is the same. I just upgraded to 7.3 a couple days ago, and haven't really updated my remote since then. Just clicking through, though, it seemed more responsive than the previous version; sometimes I had to click "next" or "cancel" 2 or 3 times to get it to go. I haven't had any conflicts on my computers with 7.3, so you might try upgrading again to see if a new download helps. However, as far as functionality, 7.0 is the same as 7.3.
l2bengtrek 07-03-07, 02:09 PM Thanks man...appreciate it. The 7.3 I have now was a new install off the website. I've only had the remote about a week. I downloaded 7.3 intitially to take the "test drive" for component compatibility...so it was already on the computer. Then my girlfriend this morning tells me about the network error message thats been happening for about a week. Kinda coincides with when I installed the software. Now all of a sudden, my computer has trouble connecting to logitech. That's what leads me to thinking its something in the program my computers don't like.
l2bengtrek 07-03-07, 03:11 PM One more question....
Say this idea of mine works and all is good again. Logitech's database gets updated on the website...right? I really don't care what version I have, as long as I can still add new components down the road.
schroedk 07-03-07, 06:07 PM I'm not exactly sure by what you mean "logitech's database gets updated on the website". I think the answer that you're looking for is that you can take your remote over to a friends house or hook it up to a brand new computer (if the updating software is installed), and your settings will show up, since the data is not stored locally but in Logitech's own site. And yes, you can add/change/remove components and activities at any time, on any computer with the software.
You used to be able to access your settings via internet explorer and not even have to use the software, but last time I checked, that option was not where it typically is. I don't know if that's still possible to do or not.
l2bengtrek 07-03-07, 10:34 PM Thanks, you've been alot of help! I posted my issues on Logitech's remote forum and I was told by a member that he had gotten a notice a couple of weeks ago that the remote server would be down july 3rd and 4th. He said he was getting error messages also so that's good to hear. Now I need to find out what's going on with my laptop...I don't have any of the remote software on it so something else must be going on by coincidence.
Thanks again!
tokerblue 07-03-07, 11:44 PM I used the web server yesterday to make some changes and then checked the local application and the settings were updated right away.
l2bengtrek 07-05-07, 11:16 AM I'm not exactly sure by what you mean "logitech's database gets updated on the website". .
What I meant was that if I used an older version of software, is the component database in the software or on the website? I didn't wanna be running older software and get new equipment down the road and the new models not be in the database. As it ends up anyway, my problem wasn't a buggy download, it was logitech's server being down off and on. Other people experienced it and it was confirmed that logitech's server was getting maintenance done during the 3rd and 4th. Since yesterday I have not had a problem running 7.3.
Thanks for your help though!!
