Hi!

I have all my DVD's which I have ripped in TS/VOB format. Does the 4100 "prefer" one format over another? Is it stable with both and can it handle menus and chapter skipping in both formats? I'm just thinking ahead... should I convert my TS/VOBs to ISOs?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I would love to find a devvice that could play ripped DVDs without having to convert to another format.

The TViX is fine with VOB/IFO files and will render the menus appropriately, same with ISOs. As far as transport streams, I think you're out of luck. I prefer to rip to ISOs as it's just a single file... Though you still need to navigate to the ISO files (or the IFO file) to select the DVD [I have a 5000 so perhaps it's different in the 4100]

Have you had any problems streaming these files? I've read that people have buffering problems and/or skipping. Currently burning to DVD works, but I'd like to go HDD streaming direction if it is reliable. Any other drawbacks with the 5100?

Both 4000 and 5000 series TVIX plays transport streams just fine.

keep you ts's as ts's-the tvix boxes play them "flawlessly".
as for dvd's-I would recommend vob/ifo's in directories over iso's because the firmwares have from time to time had problems with some iso's but never have i had a problem with file based rips. iso's are much more convenient though.

I have the 4100 and have played countless ISO's (which are very simple and convenient, but the unit handles both easily). The only time I have ever had a glitch is if my PC starts to do something automatically while I am watching a file (e.g. antivirus starts running). Just make sure that nothing is going to automatically start up while you are streaming your video files.
