Right now iam looking at the

Sony UX5
Sony SR5
Canon HV20

All seem to have good reviews, could somebody give me some input on the cameras and the ups and downs.

It seems like the HV20 is famed on this forum, why is that?

24p (for film look), Cinegamma setting (also for film look) and 1080p. It's that simple. Not too long ago the only true 24p camcorder out there was the Panasonic DV100A/DV100B 480p camera and it is 4:3. It still costs around $2,500, I believe. It was around $3,500. It was huge because it came closer to looking like film than any camer NEAR it's price range due to its features. Those features being 24p (24 frames per second), higher dynamic range and cinema gamma curves used to emulate the look and feel of film. The HV20 may not look quite as much like film, but it's as close as you can get near the $1000. The DV100A took the independent filmmaker world by storm when it came out and ever since low/no budget filmmakers have been dying for an affordable 24p camera, especially one that is true HD.

HV20 is an amazing video machine. Read other reviews around the net...they are almost unanimous in praising the HV20.

Great deal!

Where?
Donde esta?
Ou est?

I've waiting for a good price on the HV20. My biggest regret with it is that I will have to buy the Wideangle converter. It adds cost and size to the camera.

Thanks!

Hire me - please? ;)

At Amazon it's $985.
It isn't much cheaper from other respectable mail order houses.

Well I was looking around the web and found this.

http://stage6.divx.com/videos/tag:hv20

You might need to download the divx codec which you can get at the bottom of the page but WOW.....This camcorder is amazing.

Simply amazing.

Watched every single clip on the website.

The HV20 has very good reviews. If you want some advice, I'd prioritize what is most important to you.

If you want the best PQ in a Hi Def camcorder, the HV20 is probably your best bet from everything I've read. The downside is dealing with miniDV tapes. They may be better for archiving, but using them is slow and (in my opinion) inconvenient.

If you want convenience of use - I'd go with the Sony UX5 - the downside here is lesser PQ, and smaller storage space.

I'd recommend considering the HDD camcorder for ease of use. I took over a month to make my decision (new baby...), and went with the older HDR-SR1. The new JVC looked nice, but reviews on PQ and some other features (e.g. external mic jack) were lacking.

I'd also recommend looking at some good reviews of all of your options! camcorderinfo was a good site for me - they have a good HD camcorder "shootout".
