I'm dual-format, live in the UK, and prefer HD DVD.

But I'll be camping outside the shop overnight to get these.

I hope there are lots of people who work in the offices at Sony, Fox and Disney who love these...and they turn out to be regionally coded as Europe only. And there's a rights issue that stops them coming out in the USA.

That'll teach 'em! :D

I need both of these!

They are both on my most wanted list. Need about 3-4 other Ingmar Bergman titles and the rest of the Vengeance trilogy and I'll be quite happy.

Tartan has a lot of good titles in the collection.

I recently watched The Seventh Seal on HDNet, and it looked great. I imagine it's the same transfer, which will look better on disc without the bandwidth constraints. I'm in!

How "recently" did you see this on HDNet? I've had HDNet and HDNet Movies since February, but have not seen the Seventh Seal on their schedules.

HDnet movies never aired the seventh seal that I can recall, and I scan their listings all the time. Could he have meant the Seventh Sign with Demi Moore, I think they aired that a while ago.

Yes. Region free.

It was released and is available, but it seems initial supply was low. Some places are posting that it is now in stock such as Amazon.co.uk. My order shipped today.

Well, I came home from work and found these on the door step: http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg105/patlabor_album/tudors.jpg.

It just so happens that the bulb on my projector blew Sunday, but I should have a replacement in a couple of days. I"ll try and post some intitial thoughts ASAP.

Got the new bulb and was able to do some quick comparisons. Fine detail and sharpness is definetly improved over the Criterion DVD, not a radical difference but cetrainly noticable. The print has been cleaned up a fair amount compared to the Criterion version and the subtitle translation seems to be more or the literal side.

I'll wait for the bulb to settle in, before making judgments on contrast and such, but there are sevral scenes that were blown out in the Criterion, but a perfectly fine on the Tartan version.

As far as the DVDbeaver review, I have no idea where he got this blue tint thing from. It's slightly little more "black and white" then the Criterion DVD, but adjusting the color temp to the proper setting for B&W should fix that.

It's too bad more people don't seem to be intersted in this title, it would be great to get more films of this nature on Blu Ray, possibly even drag Criterion into the fray!

Criterion (which prides itself on offering the highest quality transfers) should have jumped into HD DVD or Blu-ray or both by now. I guess they're afraid they'll upset all those buyers who bought large (and expensive) collections of their SD discs and would piss off those buyers if those collectors had to upgrade their library to hi def discs.

I've had the Blu-ray disc for a few days and I haven't noticed any blue haze. (Maybe the reviewer needs to recalibrate something in his system.) It is very detailed and looks very grainy at times, but the grain is inherrent in the film.

Does the transfer have EE or DNR?
