I am perplexed by a problem that I am having with my remote controls. As I mentioned in another thread my in-laws have an HDTV upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs TV is an LG plasma and the TV downstairs is a Zenith HD with a Zenith DVD/VCR combo. The upstairs TV has a DirecTV receiver connected to it with an IR remote control extender (http://www.retrothing.com/2006/10/radio_shack_rem.html) that connects to the TV downstairs because it does not have its own DirecTV receiver. This causes a problem because the remotes for the TV and DVD/VCR combo downstairs catch the extender and change the channels and input settings of the TV upstairs. This is because LG and Zenith are essentially the same TV since LG purchased Zenith (I believe).

Has anyone heard of this problem and does anyone have a possible solution to the problem?

Set up the extender with some kind of block to prevent it from sending a signal to both the D* box and TV (think cardboard and electrical tape though you don't want to completely block the IR sensor on the D* box)

Another option would be an RF remote enabled receiver so they can scrap the IR repeater.
