So now I've got a popcorn cart. We've got some big plastic bowls we can give to guests to eat their popcorn out of. What I'd really like is to get a gross (500) or so of the same popcorn tubs you see in theaters for buttered popcorn.

Typing "Popcorn boxes" or "Popcorn tubs" in Google gets plenty of sources, but none I've ever used before.

Anyone that has a reliable safe source for 24oz, 32oz, and larger popcorn tubs please feel free to share where you got them from. I've looked everywhere in my small town and now realize I'll have to order these online.

Try Stargate Cinema (http://www.stargatecinema.com). I saw them there. I may have also seen them as samsclub.com or costco.com when I was looking for popcorn machines yesterday.

I got mine at one of those kitchen gadget stores at an outlet store strip mall...

How about tubs that have a really good bottom and will eliminate the greese/butter from dripping through? I hate the ones at the theater that have paper bottoms because they always become a oily mess.

I especially hate the fad that the theaters have gone to with these paper bags. Those are the worst, but I guess it saves them money and may be better for the environment.

http://www.ht-accessories.com and locally I can get the boxes in small quantities (like 10) from World Market. They have some popcorn serving stuff that is quite interesting! :p I would never have thought. http://www.worldmarket.com

The ones I got at the kitchen gadget store are plastic and look like the old cardboard theater ones - dishwasher safe and no mess.

Thanks, folks. Now tell me what size most of you prefer. Typically the tubs come in 24oz, 32oz, 46oz, 85oz, etc. I'm thinking 32oz (four cups) but know that my wife and I usually buy one larger tub to share when at the theater.

I have been getting mine here, http://www.ht-express.com/catalog/search_ads.asp?CID=100&kew=popcorn+tub

thirty two ouncers are not very big, you might consider at least forty sixers. We mainly use the eighty five ounce tubs but also keep some 130's on hand also.

Typically we will use the smaller ones (24 or 32) for individual servers but bring the extra into the theater in a larger one for refills....

I can vouch for HT Express also.
I have these for tubs but I don't use them for popcorn.
Instead, I put chips, doritos and other stuff in them.

Instead of using these for soda, I use these for popcorn.

85oz werks for me! :D
The 130oz is like the large size big tubs you used to get in theaters before they switched over to bags.
I had some 170 ounce at one time, and those are REALLY big!!!

The 32 oz is like a medium soda and the 46oz are like a large soda. They generally fit cup holders.

I like the 85oz cause I can get my big grubby hands in them. I can't get my hands in anything smaller...you have to pour it into your hands. :(

I have all sizes in my home theater. The 32/46 oz I use to serve to the kids... one each kid, and the 85oz one for each adult.

It's crazy, but the cups (46oz or less) and tubs (85oz and more) are sized in liquid volume! I think it's beacuse they are made by drink cup manufacturers. Two 32 oz will hold a microwave size bag.

"How about tubs that have a really good bottom and will eliminate the greese/butter from dripping through"

the popcorn cups and tubs are the same as a beverage cup and will not leak. The folded boxes WILL leak. If you add liquid butter topping, you need a cup/tub or a laminated bag.

We use the 46oz from HT-Express.

I think of the 46oz the same size as a big gulp. You probably don't need any more popcorn than that but if thats all you are having why get a tub anyways. I have 85 and 130 from ht-express. 130 is pretty big for 2. I am a big fella and I whimper at the mere thought of the 170.

We get the 46oz plastic 'cups' at Smart 'N Final. Very inexpensive, look festive, and are tapered so they fit into the plastic cup holders in our Coaster theater seating.

I just got a shipment of 46oz and 85 oz tubs.

The 85oz appears to be the "large" size that my wife and I usually share at the theater. The 46oz seemed perfect for individual servings last night during the All-star Game. (Although we ate dinner late so we weren't as hungry as I think we would normally be.)

I got the ones that say "Popcorn" on them. Funny thing is after my wife saw them (she didn't know I ordered them and was home when the FIVE cartons showed up) she says, "When the basement in finished, maybe you can find a way to store them so that you can see them! You know, like at the theater"

I guess she likes them.

Hi Everyone!

1/ What size of tub would hold one (1) microwave bag perfectly 24 or 32 oz.
2/ What size of tub would hold two (2) microwave bags perfectly 32 or 46 oz.

Those microwave bags are to greasy and just don't have that Cinema feel to them! :)

Thanks; Jessica

I think one regular size (not single serving or "healthy" or whatever) Orvilles would MAYBE fit in a 46oz, but it would be pretty full. I don't think two would even fit in an 85 oz.

You still may run into problems digging into a 46 oz cup. I'd get the 85oz tub and dump the bag in there. Then there's PLENTY of room for your hand without hitting the sides.

I like the larger tubs as well. (85oz or larger)

I like to pick popcorn out of a tub that I can get my hand in as opposed to pouring the popcorn out of a cup into my hand. I can't get my hand in the 46oz tubs , at least not past half-way.

A three-and-a-half ounce microwave bag usually fills 2 46oz tubs about two-thirds full or about 70 ounces of space. (guesstimate) :p

Being a girl I've got tiny hands but I agree with the 85oz idea.

I just did a trial test and you guys are right, the 46oz is to small (left overs from the microwave bag) and the even though the 85oz is a "wee" bit to big (popcorn doesn't quite fill the rim) its alot better for friends and bigger mits. :p

I'm buying the 85oz!

Thanks Guys; Jessica :)

P.S. Me Tinks I need a real popcorn machine, Oh wait no room, no money!

Jessica,

You don't need a real popcorn machine but atleast get a Stir Crazy. They are <$30, available everywhere and you can put real ingredients in and make real movie popcorn. It is a night and day difference from the microwavable variety. Just something to think about.

Absolutely. Throw the stir-crazy-popped corn in the oven for 10 minutes and you'll get excellent results. Mmm... fresh buttery popcorn... *slobber*

There are a lot of choices at
http://www.kitchencollection.com
Just do a search for "popcorn"

I have three sizes of the red and white plastic popcorn tubs.

Every once in a while Target will have the small sizes of these in their $1 section. I have bought a bunch from them as well.

I have some of those, the problem being I can't get my big mits in them! :(
I like to "pick" popcorn and not pour it into my hand. Other's milage may vary.
I like a BIG tub. At home or at the Theater. :D

Has anyone found plastic bowls with a protrusion towards the bottom, so that it rests inside the cup holder?

I just got some 85oz tubs from ht-express and they are rather flimzy compared to the larger yellow 130oz tubs I had been using. The cardboard is way, way thinner. These are the red ones...anyone else compare these?

I wonder if the yellow 85oz are more sturdier?

I've tried three types of the round tubs:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g273/MidLife_2006/Popper1.gif?t=1213798241

The Red and Blue ones are slightly thinner walled. You get more, though, per pack. The two yellow types are a little bit sturdier, yes. :)

Thanks MidLife...I figured there was a catch in that they were a few dollars less than the same sized yellow mothers. :D...no biggie. They're not THAT bad but are pretty thin.

Thanks!

I just ordered some 32oz popcorn tubs from Amazon. They come from Wabash Valley Farms.

The link doesn't seem to work, but do a search for "32 popcorn tub" and they should come up. I bought the same ones on clearance in the mall and really liked them.

My local theater actually uses the yellow ones in the picture and they work great. I've never gotten grease or anything like that on me although they are much too big for a cupholder.

I personally have some of the foldout cardboard ones I bought when I got my popcorn machine that work pretty good for easy cleanup. Mainly I use some plastic ones that I got at Target on clearance for $1 each. They aren't big, but they are plastic and reusable...the only downfall is some of the red paint on the outside comes off in the dishwasher so they don't look as good as when you first get them, but function just fine.

I found a few sleeves from a closed local theater in a local discount (odd-lot) type store. They cost almost nothing (a buck or two per sleeve). Keep your eyes peeled and perhaps you will get lucky (my wife actually found them and surprised me!)

This forum won't allow posting the link without modifying and destroying it, unfortunately. Just search on "popcorn tubs 32 oz" on Amazon and you'll find what he bought. 10 for $4.49 or 500 for $124.99.

I bought the 85 oz. tubs from Stargate Cinema (http://www.stargatecinema.com/Buckets-Bags-Boxes-c-323.html). They have other sizes, both larger and smaller.

I just use my disposable hot dog / nacho cardboard-ish trays these days.
I had larger real popcorn tubs, but nobody ever ate even a third of it.

I use the popcorn tubs to hold my straws now. :)

I guess I just haven't had a real pocorn-a-holic over yet. I read posts in awe of the popcorn consumption many have going on here.

I placed a large order with mypopcornmachine.com last Sunday. They charged my credit card on Monday, and on Wednesday I called to check on the order. It took forever to get a live person on the phone (their Customer Service is outsourced to India), and when I finally was able to speak to someone he said the entire order was back-ordered and had been cancelled. I was told that I would have confirmation of this and my credit card would be refunded within the next two hours. None of that happened, and I spent two days sending emails and calling with no success. Friday afternoon I called AmEx and contested the charges.

Their prices are good, but this is one shoddy operation. Stay away.
