View Full Version : SwitchRes nightmare on KDL-40W2000

I implore the wisdom of the community to hopefully get some sleep back!!!

I bought a mini 2 weeks ago to use on my Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000 (1080p), connected them with a DVI-HDMI cable. The TV reported 1080p and I thougt a got a hassle-free result... for an hour or so!!! I then started to wonder whether the picture was as crisp as it should be considering a theoretical pixel to pixel mapping, and found this forum. After reading just about everything relevant here (so much, what a brilliant forum!), trying DisplayConfigX and now SwitchResx, I have this sinking feeling that I have made no progress whatsoever and going in circles.
Basically standard out of the box, Overscan is on in my Display preferences. This gives me perfect screen spread on the LCD, but it looks almost magnified from a smaller resolution (1368x768???). Is this possible? Switching Overscan OFF gives me a small screen (~70%) centered on the screen. I must mention here that I have set the Full Picture option on on the TV set, which is basically Sony's pixel to pixel mapping option.
I have then tried DisplayConfigX, now SwitchRes, with little result (I run out of porches before the picture increases to anything that I can positively recognise as bigger than the initial picture.
I am going mad!! Has anybody done this with one of the Sony Bravia 1080p sets?

Thanks in advance!!

After more experimenting and looking around, I have realised that setting the resolution at 1920x1080 with no overscan seems to give an image of about 80% used surface. Is it possible that the panel itself has more than 1920x1080 pixels? The TV does report a 1080p signal, so why would it shrink the actual pixel to a lesser resolution? If it does it properly with a Bluray or HDTV player, there must be something strange going on with the mini surely??

enable Full Pixel in sony menu and enable auto format to
should help alot, i have it connected to a HTPC with hdmi cable at 1920x1080p 50hz and when Full Pixel is enabled everything is fine, 100% pixel-to-pixel perfect to

besure to use 50hz or you will get underscan on 60hz like you have i think

I get perfect pixelmapping straight out of the box. Mini reports 1080 interlaced, but the TV confirms it is 1080p. Set it to 50Hz. No need for switchres or displayconfigx.
