Serious universal remote stuff is new to me, so forgive my question if it's lame.

I see that there are remotes these days which you program or update via computer. Are some remote brands especially good (or bad) for Mac users? And if they're all bad, how much functionality will I lose for not using a computer at all?

My ideal remote will control a Dish DVR, a Pioneer TV, a Marantz receiver, and a Sony CD/DVD player.

Harmony remotes work fine with OS X, maybe even better than under Windows.
