i read this on another forum and saw it for pre-order on the uk's play.com. Ronin on blu ray is listed as streeting july 9th. it is also listed as available as of today on playasia for the princely sum of $46.90. it is listed as region a though which should make it compatible...if anyone picks this up impressions would be great.

If it's a Region B PS3, sure.

You can't trust the listings for region codes at online stores. Many movies are even marked a certain region on the case but are region-free.

In the future, always refer to this site for info on Blu-ray region coding:

The Japanese version (region A) has been out since December. Decent PQ, AQ, great film.

Got the Japanese version of Ronin. Terribly disappointed with the PQ. The colors are extremely under-saturated and it could have looked much better had Fox/MGM pumped up the contrast and colors a bit. $35 just went into the drain. Damn you Fox.

Please exercise enough caution before purchasing Fox's MPEG-2 catalog titles.

So you think the colors being undersaturated has something to do with MPEG-2 and you would want contrast and colors pumped up regardless of the original steely look of the movie.

I think you might be alone with that opinion.

Yeah I will be happy with Ronin as long as they give me what was intended. None of this DNR or EE crap. That also goes for artificially bumping up the contrast or colors.

Not like that. But the colors were way too off throughout the movie. If you had checked Edward Scissorhands and The Fly Fox had pumped up the contrast and colors a bit to hide the imperfections in the master and minimize giving an aged look. Boosting contrast and colors on old HD masters with no DNR/EE is a good way of ensuring damage limitation.

I respectfully disagree. I've seen Ronin during its original theatrical run, on DVD, on HDNet and on Blu-ray. Ronin looks the way it's supposed to look, the colors are not off. (And Edward Scissorhands and The Fly do not have boosted colors or contrast to hide imperfections in the master, by the way.)
