I am having huge problems with my Mac. I think my child has been pushing buttons. I go to get on it one day and can not read any text nothing, not my file names, or any of my drop downs all it shows is squares w/ A's in them for each letter - I thought it was a font problem but I can't read anything to find to change the fonts - what I do find a little odd is that not only is there that situation but I cant open anything with my curser - my mouse is moving but will not let me click anything open - please Help I do miss my Mac! Thank you so much
Daphne :(

What operating system are you running? It sounds like either the default display font has been changed to something that isn't rendering properly, or the font is corrupt The default keyboard layout may have been changed to something other than US also. Depending on the OS, most likely you will have to start with extensions off (OS 9) or from the CD/DVD (OS X) and ditch some preferences to get the Mac back into a default state.
Hello Daphne,
Wildrock hit it on the head. Depending on your system, your best bet is to start up from the operating system disk (hold down the "C" key while you restart your computer, with the disk in your CD or DVD drive). If you then see that you can read the information and can click items with your cursor, then you know that your system install on the mac has been toyed with. At that point, your best bet will be to reinstall the system software without erasing the drive. This should still keep all your e-mail, web browsing, address book, calendar, and so forth setting.
Hope this helps.

Okay when I start it up it says Mac OS X - Im sorry if I seem like I dont know much about mac's but its because I dont :)
So I put in my Mac OS X Install disk into the CD/DVD and restart it up while holding down the C button - and if everything works like it should I reinstall the softwae and it wont delete my stuff like pics and such?
Thank you so much for the advise!!! I really appreciate it ...and my IPod really misses the itunes lol okay well I do

okay I hit a snag- I tried doing what I "thought" I was supposed to be doing but i got a message saying
"There are newer versions of some of the software packages in Mac OS X already installed on the volume Macintosh HD"
"This software does not allow older versions to be installed on top of newer versions"
Im sorry I am a awesome computer user ...but not good at the system stuff - thats my husbands nack and he is deployed overseas right now :(

Daphne, I am sorry, but this is a forum for home-theater, not a general help forum for Macs. If you still have problems with your computer, I recommend you go to one of Apple's support forums where there are people who can help you. You might find this one (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=752) best suited to your problem. Good luck.
