Buy a programmable universal instead. A URC or Harmony will control the Denon 2910 without any problems.

Andy, in my experience, the enormous Harmony database and PC based internet interface is so powerful that, combined with their (usually) excellent customer service, they are a good choice for most people. Since they do not use "codes" you just need to enter your make and model number so that your equipment will be recognized. After that, any buttons that are not set up correctly by default can be assigned using the computer interface.

Anything the original remote did, they will do it. They do not need the original remote to "learn" from either, which is important in your case!

My suggestions would be as follows:

Option (a) Harmony 550 ~$80 online (amazon.com).

- Limited to 4 "soft" buttons
- Monochrome LCD only
- "Glow" button only (no tilt sensor)
- AAA batteries will need replacing (possibly every 6 months or so)
- See it at Circuit City for $130!

Option (b) Harmony 720 ~$150 at Costco.com for members.

- 6 "soft" buttons
- Color LCD
- Tilt sensor
- Self-charger base
- Also at Target for $200!

Soft buttons are really useful for all those functions the original remote had, but the new remote does not have hard buttons labeled for. The soft buttons can be labeled with anything you want. More soft buttons is usually better, although you can "flick" through several pages of soft button screens on either remote.

Even though the 550 is not "as good" as the 720 on paper, it will do everything the 720 can do. Fewer soft buttons and batteries needing replacement are the only real differences, if you think the 720 is more than you want to spend.

If you'd like a cheaper solution, I can load the code for the 2910 into a JP1 remote for you. The remotes start at $19 each and shipping is $5. Drop me a line if you're interested.
