The BH100 manual states that it will upconvert std DVD to 720p or 1080i. It does not work for me. I tried several DVD Firewall, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars I All displayed at 480i. Even when the BH100 is set to 1080i.

Doese any one that has this player have this upconverting working?

Oh and if you are wondering why i'am not using HDMI? It is because if fails to hand shake 50% of the time. I tried connection the BH100 to Moone HDMI/Component card in a NEC Switcher feeding a NEC 9PG plus. So we changes over to component.

I did not want to invite over a room full of people, turn on the system and have the HDMI hand shake fail. The price we pay for Hollywoods copy protection!!!

I don't own a BH100, but my HD-A2 will not upconvert Standard Definition DVDs over component. The only reason HD content (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) shows up at 1080i or whatever over component is because the ICT flag on the new discs is not set.

A "copy protected" SD-DVD will cause the player to 'disallow' the upconversion.

I looked at the BH100 manual online, and it says something along these lines on page 16.

Must be the answer because some DVD will upconvert like, Animusic I, Some of the sample DVD from this form, and the AVIA Guide to Home Theater.

That realy sucks, i bet the upconvert would work accross HDMI, because of the so called copy protection.

The DVD patent license agreement from the DVD Forum specifically forbids upconverersion via component (e.g., analog) outputs. Those few DVD players that in the past have provided upconversion via component video were in violation of their license.

Thanks, that must be the reason.

So now my problem is to get the HDMI handshaking 100% of the time and get the DVD to upconvert over it.

For some unknown reason the Bh100 did a hand shake with the Moone card this evening. So i tried a SD-DVD, one that did not work over Component. It worked the SD-DVD us up-converted to 1080i over the HDMI. So all is good if and when the HDMI does the handshake.
