After seeing a show on HGTV I decided to build my own rack. I started it tonight, and hope it turns out well. :) Here are some pictures:

I will be painting the outside of the of the case the color of the room, I decided not to paint the inside because 1 it is inside and you won't see it, and 2 I only have enough paint left for the outside and am slightly over the budget in my mind for the project.
I decided on Velcro instead of hinges because I need something that doesnt open out for clearance issues.
My cost looks like this:
Framed Poster $29
Wood $20
Screws + velcro $10
Mounting Hardware $10

$69

very neat man, keep up the work, I'd be interested in seeing pics when you're finished as I'm thinking about doing something similar

I had a small corner peice come off which I had to wood glue, I will be painting and mounting tomorrow. :) It took less time to do than I thought it would.

Okay, I have finished, it took WAY less time than I thought. (I am not very handy and have never built anything...)
I ended up painting the inside after realizing that a little paint went a LONG way. The only thing I need to do is get some foam as backing to bring the movies to the front of the rack. I needed 6.5" depth and could only find 7.5" which leaves some space.
I am pretty happy with it, I will probably build a second since I will fill this one quickly.
mounted and painted:

BTW you can't tell from the picture, the shelves are level but my pictures aren't.

Looks good. You may want to reinforce the poster frame corners so they don't flex. The joints tend to open up overtime from the Velcro sticking too tightly when you try and remove the frame.

I guess that's a good way to hide your DVD collection if you hate people to touch your DVDs.
What would really be neat is if you made the wooden structure a lightbox for your poster?
Have you thought about making a lightbox for other posters?

My net step with this is to move this item to another wall where I can sink it into the closet and all you will see is the poster. Someone on another forum gave me that idea. The only thing you will see is the poster face :)
The next thing I am going to build is a 11"x17" Scrubs poster box, similar to this but a clear glass poster frame and a transparancy scrubs chest X-ray with a light box behind it. But it is still in design/research phase.
I was going to but the poster anyway, and building this was MUCH cheaper than buying a similar rack that would hide my dvds

Looks great! Yes, it would look nice with it recessed in a wall and back lit. I'd have to opt for some hinges, though, velcro just doesn't last.
You'll be ticked when you snatch the poster frame off and those staples snap and it all falls apart.
Thanks for posting all the pics.
