Maybe... maybe not.

According to the below site.

Yes Nintendo is dominating this area and Sony has a large owner base, yet few quality titles. Is there room for one more contender? Should this "Xboy" be an assimilation of the Zune?

What are the possiblities? WiFi Xbox Live matches, internet access to your games and music, IM?

On that note how much would this uber machine cost? The same as a launch day 60gb PS3? ;-) How much would it weigh? Would it still overheat and give RROD?

Lots of questions and only speculation, wishes, and hopes from all of us. Let's hear 'em!

Personally, I think it would be really cool to see what Microsoft could do in this arena with their Live Anywhere platform. However, with the huge install base of the GBA and the DS dominating sales charts I don't think it would do much better (if at all better) than the PSP in terms of sales, which would ultimately hinder developer support. I just don't think we need to see another portable game system in the market at this time (maybe the next-gen portables) , but more competition/options is usually a good for the consumer. Although I voted no, I would still probably pick one up of they did make it though :D

Cheers,
Steve

Word. Steve(from England,no? Uneducated guess) said what I wanted to say. But I will add, in general portable gaming is cool for people on the go, and unfortunately not much else. I bought a PSP and realized that I didnt have time for it and just dont travel as much as I thought I did (should)...

Microsoft has been in the portable arena for a while now, its called Smartphones and PocketPCs (Windows Mobile)

True, but as a dedicated portable gaming platform? The quality of the games on Smartphones and PocketPCs are very varying. If you dont mind Soduku or Zuma clones, then you could be satisfied. Yet a very nice compliment to the PC and Console fronts would a portable be.

Also, if I remember, about early this year (or was it late last?) Microsoft applied for a patent for vaguely descriptive (aren't they all!) gaming platform that could have multiple portable units connect to each other and pull in their processing powers and act as one unit. This portable version of a game system would kind of be real loss for them, as many people would not want to buy 4-5 different systems, just to have the ultimate experience, but it does highlight the fact that MS is (seemingly) reaching, probing, and sneaking into the portable (dedicated) games market.

For what it is worth at least Microsoft's connections with casual games developers will enable a vast variety of (rather) cheap games at a supposed portable game systems' launch. ;-)

Also, I do re-iterate that Nintendo is the portable system leader. I've stated that as a fact in the OP. Yet its a feeling like... well... a disturbance in the force! Can't you just feel a portable sneaking up upon us? Waiting for the right time to just jump out at ya? Holiday's are usually the right time, but the scant bits of intel leads me to believe maybe next year. Maybe the idea is being worked on but being implemented with the Next Xboxs' forth-coming technology?

Sorry... a bit too early to discuss the next system.
