I have no idea where to post this so I guess here’s as good a place as any. I’m just putting the finishing touches on our new hot tub and cedar gazebo. The gazebo is 12x14 feet. The roof is leak proof so water itself isn’t a concern. What I am however concerned about is moisture in the room. I’ve trenched a direct earth coaxial cable to the gazebo so I’m able to hook up a TV to my satellite. I’d love to leave a flat panel LCD in the gazebo during the summer months. I also want to hook up an older 5.1 DD receiver and small Wharfedale 5.1 surround speakers.

The gazebo will be by the pool and it’ll be nice to stream music from the computer to the gazebo so we can enjoy it not only in the hot tub but while we’re sipping a cold one on the pool deck.

There’s got to be moisture in that gazebo! Will I end up with a broken LCD, satellite unit and receiver if I leave it in the gazebo during the summer months. Is there no way to avoid lugging the equipment in and out every time I want to use it?

I just helped a friend put one in their Four Season room that includes a hot tub. I had him go with a DLP system because it's sealed. The LCD was fogging up all the time.

Remember that moisture will effect any electrical component in the room. His room was approximately 21' x 19' and had an exhaust fan installed.

I spotted this install in my travels. It sits in a saltwater marina.

Yep as I suspected, I’m in trouble! My gazebo is half the size and there’s no exhaust fan. It looks like it’s going to be a lug it in and out of the house as we need it type of thing. What about the speakers? Could they be left in the gazebo?

LOL! :D

Ya right, you're not fooling us. The real purpose of that pic was to get a shot of the ladies back end as she's changing the prices on the sign! :p

Does the gazebo have walls? I would think the majority of moisture would exit the building, unless you have the TV mounted real high where warm moist air will accumulate.

Also, you could build some sort of plexiglass enclosure to protect the TV from the elements. Do you have any pictures of your gazebo (I am just curious because the wife and I have talked about redoing our back yard/deck).

You could just buy cheap stuff and accept the fact that in a few years (when it is already obsolete) that you may need to replace it. Goodwill and a tax right off.

I seen those! The problem is they’re really expensive. The hot tub and gazebo laid in (new electrical panel and concrete pad) will end up just north of 30k as it is. I’m not sure the waterproof flat panel would pass the needed WAF!

I think I’ll just haul our 32-inch LCD back and forth in and out of the house. Another issue with the waterproof display is some son of a you know what would surely steal it. The LCD is light enough to easily move it back and forth.

It’s not like I’ll be watching tv or movies in the tub. It’ll only be used watching football or hockey games anyway. Sporting events are always better at 101! ;)

Dehumidifier? Or copola with a fan or louvers?

Aren't you only going to spend like 15 minutes at a time in the tub? Setting up a TV to be used only those few minutes seems pretty extravagant. Although if I has the disposable $, I might very well do something similar. :)

what about a small exhaust fan somewhere out of sight in the gazebo? I am designing a sunroom/home theater (obviously not for simultaneous use) about 12' by 30' that will have two exhaust fans in the ceiling. I am also considering a small (hopefully concealable) dehumidifier. I am curious as to what you wound up doing finally....

Think of what you could do with $30k. Have you ever used a hot tub? Everyone I know that has one regrets the decision and uses it 3 times a year. They are a pain to maintain with water in them.

I like to just know people with them so I can mooch for those 3 times a year I need a little heat! :p

But heck, if you can't think of anything else, and you already have a theater, go for it.

2 cents.

Hi , we have just bought wooden gazebo and hot tub similar to yours, the electrician stated that as far as electrical connections and provisions are concerned, it has the same rules and standards as a bathroom, for safety. Our gazebo has small legs, which lifts it off the ground aprox 3" to give ventilation and will also prevent the base sitting in water . Did you put yours up yourself ? We are struggling to get the roof on ours, any advice ?
