With my recent success with Dead Rising, I went online and found that other game I "really wanted to check out". That game is Just Cause, the great demo that was fun to play but then I kinda forgot about.

As probably did most all of you, too.

Parachuting guy....3D Sandbox world.....jacking cars......helicopters......weapons......etc.

Anyone else play this game? Loved the demo, gonna start playing this one soon.

Only game i have all achievements on!! Its fun for a while but just gets to repetitive taking over towns and drug dealer mansions. A lot of the fun for me was just trying different stunts and looking around while skydiving-thought the game looked pretty good when your in the air.

OK, I'll chime in.

There's a lot to like but the game has a serious 'ennui' factor. There just isn't much pushing you forward, and a lot of the fun comes in the aerial exploration and 'wow, look at this huge world' aspects. I really enjoyed the flying/ free falling/ stunt aspects, but sometimes getting from A to B was tedious, to say the least. It's like they built as big a world as they could with the next-gen, but it's too big and too diffuse. The biggest complaints about the game are that the liberation missions are always more of the same thing over and over, and it's true. You are pretty super-heroic and can take a lot of shots, but often you'll get blasted by a rocket round from some vehicle or helo out of nowhere, and that can be very frustrating.

It has a very slow pace, but the overall art, while not stunning or really very exciting, was pretty immersive. Once you get the gyrocopter it really opens up, but it can be a struggle until then. Parachuting and free falling and all the stunt stuff is the unique part of the game and it's really fun. There is a wit to the writing and story that is nice, but again, the whole thing suffers from some serious lack of focus and direction. I'm really looking forward to the next one, because I think they are on the right track, but it's a hard game to recommend to someone who may not be willing to take a more relaxed, exploratory attitude to a game. If you like exploring big worlds, doing some collection challenges, and aren't in a huge hurry to finish the game off, the game play can be pretty fun at times, if not really well balanced or highly focused. It's no game of the year candidate, but it's a pretty good indication of the kind of thing possible in this gen of machines and there is a good bit of fun to be had if you can enjoy it for what it is.

Compared to Dead Rising, which is borderline genius but sometimes incomprehensible and with a very high frustration factor that can turn people off, Just Cause is pretty bland but not really a bad game.

Yeah, I played it. Its huge, the explosions are wonderful and the graphics vascillate between beautiful(sky, clouds and greenery) to horrid(character maps, animation and some ground textures). Unfortunately its monotonous in its missions. Im afraid you'll get tired of it after the 100th settlement you liberate.

Im also afraid you wont find much to it aside from flying around and checking things out. You will most likely get bored after about 5-6 hours or so.

Its still worth a rental or a lazy afternoon run thru.

Heres something pretty cool to try that I figured out (probably well known by most of those who played it) :

Make sure you have the grappling hook (you get it after the Second main mission or so. Phone in an airdrop ATV, Truck or whatever. Once you see the friendly helicopter coming in for the drop, line up your site to it. Once the box is dropped and the helicopter is pulling away, launch and your grapple to it. The chopper will pull away and drag you behind it, effectovely launching you thousands of feet in the air in a matter of seconds.

Then let go your line and enjoy the beautiful, peaceful, far draw distance free-fall- One of my favorite parts of the game.... :)

I finished this game when it came out (all achievements except for the driving missions). As repetitive as they are, doing the drug lord missions really helps you travel quickly. They open up a whole bunch of new safe houses around the islands. The top end ones even start you with a really nice assault chopper, which comes in handy for several types of missions. For example, any mission where you have to chase someone down is much easier when you can track them from the air and drop about 20 rockets on their head. :D
