View Full Version : Scarface is 720p but not 16:9 on 360?

Got the game today but when I put it in my 360 the whole game is in 4:3. It appears to be displaying 720p though but it is in 4:3. The weird thing is that my friend who has a original Xbox tried it out and it did display in 16:9 and 720p. I'm I doing something wrong? Will Microsoft release a patch for this?

What tv are you playing on? I ask, because my LCD will play original xbox games in 4:3 whereas my HDCRT and Plasma play in 16:9. Sometimes the tv you use comes into play. If this doesn't matter, have you checked all the in-game settings? Sometimes you can change it in the game's menus.

I'm playing it on my 50" Panny plasma 9UK via VGA. All the setting in the 360's dash are right and there doesn't seem to be any setting in the actual game to address this

It probably only supports widescreen for actual 720p mode, while the 360 uses 480pi for rendering orignal Xbox games and simply upscales that.

But the game is true 720p, it was one of few HD original X-Box games. So I don't think the X-Box has to upscale anything.

720p is inherently widescreen.

Goatse what do you mean?

720p is 1280 x 720 pixels, which is widescreen.

So why am I having this problem? Anyway to fix it?

720p is 1280 x 720 pixels, which is widescreen.

you're forgetting one thing

You can have a widescreen window with "pillar" bars, effectively producing a 4:3 image. Soul Calibur did this on the original xbox.

True, but this game shows true 16:9 on the original Xbox but not while in BC mode on the 360.

I suppose I should reprhase myself; 720p mode only works on orignal Xboxs, the emulator on the 360 only renders the games at 480p max and upscales them to whatever resolution you have the 360 set to output.

I agree with Kyle. I have seen no evidence that 720p Xbox games render in 720p on Xbox 360.

So there is no way to get this game to display 16:9 on my 360?

720p is 1280 x 720 pixels, which is widescreen.
That's not entirely true. The 720p standard only dictates 720 vertical lines of resolution (the p meaning a progressive signal). There is no width included in the standard, which is why plasma TVs that have resolutions of 1024x768 can claim to be 720p or better.

The accepted default is 1280x720, though.

So is it a 360 game? Or a regular xbox one?

Here is something weird I found out. You can get the game to display properly in 16:9 but you have to go to the dash board and change the options for screen size. YOu have to set it to normal not widescreen. Why is this. Guess I will will just have to switch it when ever I want to play Scarface. Anyone think Microsoft will release patch to fix this?

Ah the MS BC brilliance rears its head again. Nice job.

Did you set the in game settings to 720p?

Oliver Dubin
07-12-07, 11:04 PM
There are no in game settings for that game

kylebisme

No Xbox games have in game settings for 720p, it is always handled by the dashboard.

So I guess nothing can be done. Hopfully it will get fixed in an update
