I had power surge in my building today during an online matchup and well let me just say that now more than ever I believe in surge protectors. Thankfully my all my electronic equipment was unaffected. I purchased a Panamax $99 model off of Crutchfield bundled with my at the time new Toshiba HD display. While it may have saved me thousands of dollars, I'm wondering if there is anything better that someone can recommend. The reason I'm asking is because it seems the Panamax surge protector has been rendered useless. Anything, be it a clock, radio TV or iPod does not seem to work as long as it's connected to the power strip. I can't say for sure if this is something normal but I just wanna get some feedback as to what everyone else is using to secure they're gaming rigs from electrical surges.

Yes your unit should not be working anymore. That is how it operates, it sacrifices itself during a surge so that your equipment is not damaged. You should invest in a new one, maybe the MX4300 if you want some better conditioning and separate banks.

I have the MX5300 and I noticed a huge improvement in sound quality (surround sound) with it. The level of surge you should pick is really based on your equipment and preference.

I am just using the $4 one from monoprice.com and haven't had any problems. Sounds like yours did it's job and protected you from the power surge. So it is time to get a new one.

might try a model from Zerosurge or Brickwall. they use Series Mode units instead of the MOV type., but they can be more expensive in the $100-250 range, very good units.
for a house it's best to start with a whole house surge protector and then add units at the outlets for your electronics as needed.

I actually heard that you should not use a surge protector with the 360, as it has it's own power regulation in the power supply. This point has been discussed some regarding the RROD fiasco lately.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd like to see some comments on this as well.

just call panamax and they should replace it for you. A friend of mine had a panamax and it saved all his equipment and the panamax unit died after that, he called panamax and explained what happen and they sent him a brand new unit.

Its worth the shot, also even if your panamax unit is older i would call them and explain what happen. Ive been told that there customer service is excellent.

Good luck.

Tripplite's line of surge protectors have also been rated very well.

I'll have to do that. I filed a report with Panamax online and expect a call tomorrow as to what can be done. There were two options, upgrade to the latest line and receive 50% off or have your unit replaced. Personally I wouldn't mind upgrading to the 4300.

Click on returns & claims.

Appreciate the suggestion, it would've never crossed my mind.

Someone at XBOX support told me not to plug into a surge protector as it can cause freezing issues. Good thing I have a Richard Grey which doesnt limit current and also acts as a surge protector.

I've had my Xbox360 and PS3 plugged into an APC H15 unit for many months now and I've never had any problems. In fact, I've been running my whole home theater through the H15 for over a year now without a hitch. One of the reasons I like the H15 is because of it's voltage regulation feature.

Yeah, I don't know if this is another case of Monster marketing hype or just coincidence, but I had one "protecting" my HT system. Last week I had a power surge from lightning and it fried my audio receiver that was hooked up through it. Supposedly it comes with a $250,000 warranty for connected products but Monster refused to even listen to me as they said it wasn't purchased from an authorized dealer.

My advice would be to stay away from the Monster HTS 1000. I found a nice Tripp Lite unit with similar features and a 250,000 connected components warranty for less than 1/5 the price of the monster.

I have a Belkin PureAV PF60 which isn't a straight up surge protector, but offers the same protection. Don't know about reviews, but mine works really well, has a 500k equip. warranty, and is really inexpensive now. My 360 hasn't exhibited any problems routed through it either.
