Johnnyblaze 07-10-07, 10:02 PM Just got a new Elite from CC, an I opened the box an it said that it was made
on march of 07. Does this mean it's an old on batch or does it have the new heat sink, an run's quieter????...I wan t to connect it via HDMI an Fiber Optic as I have the Denon 2807....Also when I connect to Xbox Live will it automatically update to the latest firmware??

fjtorres 07-10-07, 11:25 PM Yes, it will automatically update the Dashboard software.
And the first time you try to play an Original XBOX game it will automatically update the Backwards Compatibility software.
Ditto for individual games (both retail and Arcade): it all happens automatically.
brickyardz 07-11-07, 02:01 AM Thought the new heat sink was not supposed to be out until September?
esaleris 07-11-07, 09:21 AM Can you physically connect HDMI and the A/V Breakout cable at the same time? I tried a bit without pulling the Xbox out of my rack with little success.
Is that what he's asking about?
elites already come with spring update, no need to update. Yes elites do not have upgraded internals, still 90nm processor and old heat sinks. They do have slightly faster dvd drives though people are reporting they are not quieter.
brickyardz 07-11-07, 10:28 AM If the new procesor and heatsinks solve the 3 red ring problem, would it be possible to upgrade to the new internals instead of going out and purchasing a new unit? I have no idea how much this would be. Just a thought.
Charlie97L 07-11-07, 11:04 AM i believe the heat sink is only on repairs... in sept we should be seeing the new 65nm (hopefully) and they won't have a heatsink, because they won't need it.
i have an elite produced in march 07, and it runs very cool. no worries on my end.

Yes you can. That's what the dongle is for. You need it for DVI displays, if nothing else...

20Geezy 07-11-07, 05:57 PM Yes, some of the new systems have the added heatsink. My new Elite has it. Here is a link to my thread about it on TeamXbox:
http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=533535
Edit: My system had the spring update on it as well.
Jeff Flowerday 07-11-07, 08:19 PM If your machine is built after the spring update was released you have a good chance of having it. In this case his was built Mar 07 so it won't.
alucard_x 07-12-07, 12:08 PM In addition, for first release elites (March & April mfg), the only 'fix' they did was put epoxy around the edges of both CPU/GPU.

The motherboard is still very different. We don't know for sure why they changed traces and laid out allot of the components differently. Cost cutting or design improvements?
