Let's start with the facts:
PJ - Panasonic ae1000u
Room Size is 19' X 16' Wide with complete light control
Seating around 13 ft and 16 ft
Throw distance about 15 ft.
Screen: Carada BW
Size : TBD

I've played with different combinations and I think the options are this:

1.) Under 100" screen with the a zoom at 1.0

2.) 100' screen with the zoom at about a 1.3

3.) 110' screen with a zoom of about 1.45

4.) Bigger than 110' with zoom over mid range

I know you lose brightness as you move up the zoom spectrum...But is the loss of brightness worth the additional screen size. Or more importantly, how drastic is the change in brightness from a 1.3 to a 1.45...And how drastic is the change from a 100" screen to a 110" screen?

Thanks for the recommendations!

Based on my own experience with the AE1000 and a 106" BW, I believe your first three options are all viable and the fourth one, only maybe depending on your preferences for picture "punchiness". Never forget the 30%+ decrease in lumens as the bulb ages. My own biases, which definitely lead toward the punchy side, wouldn't go to 110" with a BW and would consider moving the throw distance even closer if at all possible. But yours may vary.

Another suggestion: contact Carada and ask their opinion- they are pretty good folks and make a nice screen

Another thought: If I had your room width (16') and seating distance (13' and 16'), I would be falling all over myself to get at least 120" and looking for a way to get there. One way would be to get a higher gain screen like the High Power if your angles and number of seats can accommodate it. Search the threads and check the screen section if you're interested.

Good luck!

Just so you know if the image is the same size You GAIN brightness at max zoom and LOSE it at less zoom. Less zoom = higher contrast and lower brightness. Max Zoom = Higher brightness and less contrast. So, the difference between difference sizes at the same distance isn't as much as you'd think.

Max zoom will always give you the maximum brightness for the screen size you intend to use and minimum zoom will give you the highest contrast. I heard some of these LCDs drop upto 45% of their brightness at minimum zoom. Not sure how accurate that is.
