I would like to put my speakers behind a perf screen.I sit about 10' from the screen now, so if I mount all my LCR's it would push the screen out about a foot or so further into the room, which would put viewing at about 9'. I'm just tired of the voice being below the screen.I really don't listen to music , so this is a movie only room.

What perf screen/(digital)projector combo would work at this distance.I'm using a NEC 6PGXTRA now.Can i keep this quality ? The throw distance would be about 13-14 feet max.The room is blacked out totally. Screen would have to be 80" wide to accommodate the LCR's width all together on the front wall.

Budget..............5K for both. I was reading the RS1 thread and see that all projectors have their strong points and weak points.

No thread left behind!

I don't have my speakers behind the screen, so I have no experience to share with you. But if I went that way, I'd check out Screen Research. They use a weave pattern (rather than regularly spaced perforations), which reduces or eliminates moire. I believe their screens are both THX and ISF certified. I don't know how much they cost. Here's a link:

If you don't get better responses here, you might try the screen section.

Have you tried mounting the center channel above the screen?

The other two hot screens are SMX Screen (http://www.smxscreen.com/)... probably no more DIY pricing, and the regular pricing gives me a heart attack (but definately less so than Screen Research). SMX work-alikes are cheaper, such as Seymour AV (http://www.seymourav.com/).

Projectors... at that distance it's LCOS for the win. With the latter screen option (and maybe even SMX) you could probably squeeze an RS-1 and an 80" wide screen out of $5k. Or drop down to a Sony Pearl. But if you want CRT-from-a-digital, then RS-1 is your ticket. Just don't read all the other threads about over-saturation, it's really not that bad unless you have a colorimeter in your closet. :)

I'd be a bit concerned about noise in that small room with an RS-1, but most don't seem to mind. The pearl isn't exactly silent either it seems.

I think I'd rather stick with the idea of placing all the mains behind the screen.

I've got to get some prices on the SMX products.AVS deals with all the sales so I'll give them a call.

What speakers do you have and how are they positioned? Could be an audio issue.

I have never noticed voices appearing to come from below the screen (my CC is below the screen on a stand that is slightly angled up). Voices are full and clear.

I believe i'm really doing "Near field". I'm about 6' from the mains.Maybe 7' on a good day. I would love to get all the mains behind the screen, especially at that distance.

Thanx KG

Jeez, yeah, that might do it. Try bouncing the center channel off another surface to scatter the sound before it gets to the listening area. I'm sure it won't measure pretty but it might sound more natural.

Kg, keep in mind that if you decide to do your bass bins (below your screen), even with your LCRs behind the screen, it may shift the audio to below the screen, due to the bass bin placement.
