Remote Buddy for iPhone beta (http://www.iospirit.com/index.php?mode=view&obj_type=infogroup&obj_id=24&o_infogroup_objcode=infogroup-23&o1_infogroup_objcode=html-141&sid=3910452Ga10624d697132d92)
If they can get more palm app equivalents, I think I'm done with the Treo at rev 2 of the iPhone for sure. Very impressive start.

I agree: considering how many were disappointed believing that development would be so restricted, this has really turned out well! I believe Remote Buddy is the third home theater program for the iPhone.
This morning I also read an interesting review of a program (http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/11/ecamm-networks-iphonedrive-how-to-and-review/) that will turn your iPhone into a portable hard drive. The only question for me is how much this will cost once it reaches Europe this fall. I am not hopeful. :(
That looks like the best "iPhone App" I've seen so far. Most are just taking existing WWW pages and converting them for better display on iPhone screen dimensions. The customized backend server enables a lot more possibilities for taking WWW input and converting into system events.
This type of app is probably the best-case scenario for iPhone "Apps". Since it's dealing with device control, you only need to use it when you are at home -- and have WiFi access.
Otherwise, I have found the iPhone "Apps" to be not very useful. The latency involved in getting a data connection, loading the www site (AT&T's EDGE data network is okay, but not exactly snappy), and getting to the "App" is rarely worth the effort.
Which is not to say that the iPhone itself is disappointing. The functions it does, it does well. The UI is unmatched, the Mac synchronization is fantastic. But, after using it for almost two weeks, the one major limitation is the lack of app support.. Custom web pages just don't cut it. Even widget support with local storage would have been powerful. Requiring access to a www server is a joke.

That's interesting.. I had just assumed that I could access the iPhone in disk mode, because every previous iPod has had this capability. It's a bit odd for Apple to leave this out of the iPhone.
On the pricing, I was pleasantly surprised at the wireless plan pricing from AT&T/Cingular. It was only $20 more per month for unlimited data, which was better pricing than any other data plan I had seen before. So, it looks like they were trying to keep it reasonable to encourage adoption. Hopefully they do the same in Europe.. although it seems like you guys have to pay a premium for Apple products in most cases.

Well the problem I see is that the iPhone happens to be a phone too. You can leave your iPod in disk mode in the cradle and have to remember to eject it etc. What happens when your iPhone is in the cradle and it rings? This has happened to me and I was happy I could just pop it out of the cradle without worry. Most people are gonna grab it and that may cause problems. I have no doubt Apple will find a better solution so you can have your cake and eat it too though. The flip side of this is Apple may have full well expected that a large percentage of iPhone users don't even care/know that the device is a potential storage unit. I know quite a few people, some fairly computer literate, who never think of their iPods as portable storage.

Hey guys I know this thread has been dead for a while but I just 'discovered' remote buddy and love it. I was planning to buy the new Airpot Express (or maybe the G model for $30 cheaper since I have no N standard gear) but now I think I should buy 3 of 'em for airtunes in several rooms. Is there another thread talking about this? I actually have 3 sets of 'computer speakers' plus my HT, and I live in India where all houses are made of steel and concrete, so wifi sucks anyway, I think this combo will be fantastic for all-around iTunes controlled by Remote Buddy.
Anyone put this into practice yet?
