I admit that I hate combos as it increases the price of the movie as such.
But the combos can be used in a efficient manner when studios feel there is not enough space in HD DVD side to accommodate extra features. The SD DVD side of the combo disc can be used to for features that are encoded in 480p. This will make room for additional space in the HD DVD side facilitating the studios to incorporate more audio tracks or encode video with at bit rates.

This is a great idea, but I would go a step further and propose two discs with the extras disc encoded at 1080p.

i say to you BLAH! be gone with the combo! give us the movie! pure and simple. make our format (hd dvd) priced as competively as Bluray (subsidization or not!).

Say no to Combo!

I like the combos, just not the price.

It lets me play the movie on my portable DVD player or transcode it for another device.

Don't mind the combos as long as they work. I've had all my issues with combos.

But I don't care foir the eextras on the DVD side as you then have to flip to get them. I'm fine with 480p on the HDDVD side. But like said a second HDDVD with the extras would be better. Can't cost much more as a few discs have done it for no added cost.

This is essentially what Warner did with The Matrix Ultimate Collection.

That's assuming that the bonus features were made in 1080p in the first place. A lot of these featurettes recycled from the DVD were shot in Standard Def video.
