Ok, how possible is a 1000 titles by years end?
from an interview yesterday wiht Olivier Van Wynendaele, a general manager for Tokyo-based Toshiba in Europe.
There are currently 130 HD DVD film titles available in Europe, 230 in the U.S. and 100 in Japan, Van Wynendaele said. By the end of the year, there will be 1,000 titles available.
I'd be happy if they went over 300 titles for '07, making about 500 total.
hmurchison 07-11-07, 10:49 PM How do they accomplish this feat? The year is almost over and we're at what 250 or so movies?
They've got to be counting the same movies twice depending on region.
theone2 07-11-07, 10:57 PM Indies :D

Most likely
The Bourne Identity in the U.S. (1) the U.K. (2) Germany (3)
Multiply out by 300 titles and that's 900.

What do you think the Amazon/CustomFlix accounement two weeks ago ment?
The count is currently around 500 HD DVD titles based on this list:

Emannikcufesin 07-12-07, 12:30 AM I guess you missed all the headlines about Microsoft & Amazon teaming up to author 1000 indie films on the HD DVD format.

The Doctor 07-12-07, 01:15 AM I was going to vote for the adding worldwide total for 1000 as the answer, but maybe they are talking about the indi films. That would be over 1000 films by years end. hum,

I think the major difference is whether or not your counting NA releases or worldwide releases which seems to be switching back and forth between posts. By my list I see 265 released currently for NA.
MovieSwede 07-12-07, 08:02 AM He wasnt counting individual titles.
130 HD DVD film titles available in Europe, 230 in the U.S. and 100 in Japan
Alot of those are double dips, and so are the 1000 number.
BlackMR2 07-12-07, 08:06 AM damn... i was hoping for 1000 "adult" titles
:-)

Yes I know, I think were both saying the same thing...
According to the list DanielTS has in the link dew42 provided, there are 494 unique titles released or scheduled for release with a date.. about 90-100 of them are not yet released..
So about 400 unique titles available today. One movie not counted several times..

Thanks for the breakdown.
I think that number could easily double in the next six months. Some of the released titles are from last year but we also had a slump at the beginning of the year.
cws_kahuna 07-12-07, 03:49 PM From some of the reviews I've been seeing on catalog titles I'd rather see a slow down on the releases and see the studios take the time to release a high quality disc.
How close did we come to 1000 total and/or 600 this yr?

Well, there's 612 individual HD DVD titles that have been submitted to the AVS Member Reviews (http://reviews.avsforum.com/showcat.php?cat=3&stype=1&si=&perpage=12&sort=8&stype=&limit=&cat=3&ppuser=0) section already.

There are definitely more than 230 HD DVDs in the US. But 1000 by the end of the year does not seem realistic.
it'd be nice to see but at the rate they're going it's not likely
allargon 12-14-07, 11:15 AM There are 25-30 adult movies in the US alone not counted. I'm not sure about the foreign titles. What about all those HDNet titles? That adds maybe another 50 or so.
