View Full Version : How much effect does equipment have on enjoying Forza2?
I see quite a few "quit playing Forza 2" comments, and quite a few "I love Forza2". Some of this will always due to purchasing power, attention span, or other non-equipment considerations. But I suspect, and would like to see via this poll if there may be a connection of equipment setup to long-term enjoyment of this racing simulation.
There are two major problems with this poll in addition to the problem of polling gamer's opinions in general. So take any results with a grain of salt.
1. AVS'ers tend to have a disproportionately good setup on which to game
2. Racing enthusiasts tend to have better setups than casual racers
I am also making an assumption that the gamers who answer this poll have a reasonable display for their setup. For instance a 92" screen at 10' is similar to a 24" screen at 3'. Playing on a 29" 4:3 television from across the room is not a reasonable subject system.
I still play, and have a wheel and racing seat. I have a 92" screen/projector setup with a high-end sound system.
scottro 07-12-07, 09:32 AM I have a wheel and a nice setup...but I could see me getting bored with FM2 pretty quickly, hence, I'm waiting to find it used for like $40 or less. I went w/DiRT instead (which I'm still enjoying).
whiskey > work 07-12-07, 09:39 AM huge screen with projector, no wheel. Love the game, would marry if I could
maximuslcd 07-12-07, 02:05 PM I still play, no wheel only Cont. But I do play on a 52" lcd 1080p with surrond.....I love racing games but forza is all out sim and it does grow tiring at times...waiting on the new flatout
I'm still playing the occasional Forza 2 game with the wheel, but the problem is that I have a glut of other games I'm enjoying also: Command & Conquer 3, DiRT, R6:Vegas, and The Darkness. Especially C&C3 ... I'm on my second playthrough to try to get all the objective ribbons.
Shizelbs 07-12-07, 03:09 PM I play, but not very much. Using the wheel is clearly the most fun.
mastahkaz 07-12-07, 03:15 PM I don't have a wheel and I quit playing just because I got bored with it after a few days.
I got the wheel months ago intending to get Forza 2 but the demo didnt thrill me so still havent picked it up. I may end up selling the wheel if nothing else comes up in the racing genre.
GBO Possum 07-12-07, 03:46 PM Wheel, racing seat, THREE screens - loving it! CLICK HERE TO SEE (http://adultgamingenthusiasts.com/blogs/age/archive/2007/05/16/gamer-interview-gbo-possum-and-his-awesome-3-screen-forza-setup.aspx)
BTW, the demo did not turn me on too strongly, but the full game is wonderful. Not perfect, but wonderful.
Hedonist 07-12-07, 03:46 PM Love the game, no wheel, no real interest in spending $150 for any peripheral device.
I play this so much my wife would actually prefer that I play Gears instead!?! Not really sure what that's about. Maybe she pefers the sound of the chainsaw to the sound of the engines or squeal of the tires. :D
GBO: We posted at the same time so I didn't see your picture till now. I hate you. You suck....and I'm insanely jealous of your setup. Although there is no way in heaven or hell that my wife would allow that setup in our home. Kudos to you...you bastard!
GBO Possum 07-12-07, 03:55 PM Hedonist, I am doubly blessed. I have wifely support for my extravagance.
Sadly, I must endure the hate mail!
And I can't claim I am a better driver for all this gear, but I have fun.
The magnificent view from the high parts of the Nordschleife make it very hard to concentrate on driving

I guess all the hype of Forza 2 brought alot of people unfamiliar with the first one.

holy hell am I jealous of that setup.
Hammer65 07-12-07, 04:08 PM Controller. Still playing but it is getting a bit tedious. Some new environments via MP would be welcome.
Jeff Flowerday 07-12-07, 04:21 PM I've hit 950 achievements so now I've moved on to Dirt. Only play when someone comes over and wants to.
ooPAYNEoo 07-12-07, 07:40 PM still having fun without the wheel. Moved away from single player, because it was getting repetitive, and I could care less about achievement points (although they are nice when they come...)
For me, this game is all about personal challenge. I am buying all the cars I like, not the most popular or powerful cars. Upgrading, tuning, test driving and competing on multiplayer is where the fun is. I have the classic Camaro in every class, and my current challenge is to have them compete at every level. I have a tuned Lingenfelter (sp) Vette, at S, and walk past U999, R1, R2 at times on straighaways! I have tuned iot so I can keep it on the road on certain tracks.
Got a Porshe, specifically tuned for Maple and Nurburgring.
Everytime I drive my B class Chevelle, I love hearing people comment on how quick it accelerates. That old thing suprises everyone, even though it can't keep steady to win yet. Get laughs when I show up in the slow Gullwig, but the point is to hang back and wait for mistakes. That baby never slips, never makes a mistake. Slow and steady has won a few! Basically I want to have 20 perfectly tuned babies, and I'm happy until TDU2 as for racing games.
And all my cars look sweet!
I still play a lot. I have the wheel, but prefer the controller.

Pictures to back up those claims? :o
Robocop2 07-12-07, 09:57 PM No wheel not going to put enough for two more games into a controller for one plus I have never played with a wheel and thus far do pretty well without it. One thing I would like to say is up until Forza I have always hated the Xbox controller for racing games. I always preferred the PS2 controller. After playing and getting used to the 360 controller, I think that may change at least with this game
formulanerd 07-12-07, 11:25 PM tried the wheel, prefer the controller, steering isnt precise and i cant regulate the brake very well, but i still prefer it over the wheel.

check out the Custom car thread... I will be adding more when I get a chance. Those are my older cars.
So far, the poll shows no correlation of equipment to enjoyment of Forza2. Also, 23/57 people (40%) who responded to the poll have wheels. That is higher than I would have guessed, even for home theater buffs.
Actually, I voted "still play, no wheel", but I do have the wheel. I just like the controller better. That is a higher percentage than I would have thought too.

wokisan 07-14-07, 01:13 PM Still playin with racing wheel and a Playseat Evolution. My display is nothing spectacular....just a 32" Westy.
One quick note if you want to improve the brake setup on the wheel. Take a small foam ball, cut it in 1/2 or 1/3 and stick that under the brake pedal. It is a very cheap mod to give the braking much more of a realistic feel. Just like a real brake pedal you feel more resistance the further you depress it. Not my idea, I saw it on the forza 2 forums....some are even putting small springs under them.
