View Full Version : Two-disc ZODIAC Special Edition coming in 2008
Rusty James 07-12-07, 03:05 PM http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/archives/2007/07/zodiac_dvds.php
This explains why the upcoming SD/HD/BD versions are barebones.
Wish they had just gone ahead and released the loaded one NOW instead of making us wait. :(
jbutle4 07-12-07, 03:47 PM Seriously, this was such a great movie. I was mad enough when I found out about the delay of the HD version, but now that I know that it's also bare bones (with a special edition coming soon)...well that's just plain crappy.
What is the release date? I saw the HD trailer on XBLM and it looked OK. I heard the movie is great though, which is why I'm interested. Now I have to decide on the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.
Why the HD delay of TWO months if same edition?
bman3241 07-12-07, 07:35 PM Isn't this special edition is going to be in DVD only and not HD, the article doesn't state HD, I'm curious because I don't want to double dip. I really wish this HD DVD didn't get postponed until September 18, I was really looking forward to it
dad1153 07-12-07, 07:37 PM Damn, this is one of the better films I've seen this year and I was looking forward to seeing it in HD-DVD sooner rather than later. :(
I'm looking forward to the release this year and will definitely pick up a director's cut/SE if it is also released in HD. I recently finished both of Graysmith's books and found the details very interesting. I'd like to see what else gets added back after reading the books and being more familiar with his findings.

kanesays 07-12-07, 11:57 PM This is a title that is so worth owning. I thought Robert Downey Jr. was outstanding, and Fincher? Well, he's done it again.
Zodiac will be the first major Hollywood digital film with a totally uncompressed, tapeless path from production to the creation of a digital intermediate master. By staying uncompressed until a film negative is struck after the DI grading, the image quality will theoretically rival or surpass the image quality of camera film negative scanned at 2K resolution (2048x1556 pixels).
I cannot wait to view this title in HD DVD.

There were a few shots that screamed "video," but for the most part Zodiac just looked amazing in the theater. It was shot with the Thomson/Grass Valley Viper Filmstream camera in RAW mode. This was the same camera that was used to film most of Collateral and Miami Vice, but for these films the footage was recorded to HDCAM tape.

I'd rent it before buying. I am a DIE HARD Fincher fan...and was pretty let down.
Snake Plisken 07-15-07, 05:10 PM I'd rate Zodiac as my second fav fincher movie behind Se7en, its a pity they are only releasing a bare bones version, I saw an interview with Jake G, who had just finished doing a commentary track for it, this was around the Cannes film festival. Maybe they are delaying the release till September to give the HD formats all the extras and will release the SE on SD next year.

I'm a die hard fan of Fincher myself, and I'd put Zodiac about midway on my list.
1. Se7en
2. Fight Club
3. Zodiac
4. Alien 3
5. The Game
6. Panic Room
Vipper IV 07-15-07, 07:58 PM I'd rent it before buying. I am a DIE HARD Fincher fan...and was pretty let down. Should have actually read up on the movie first, so you would have known not to expect what we've seen from Fincher in the past.
hobbs47 07-15-07, 09:19 PM Mediocre film,too long,and it's not half as good as Se7en.Worth a rental,but I doubt I could sit through it again.

I actually did.

You might be surprised. This is one of those movies that gets DRAMATICALLY better with every viewing. Give it a rent and see if you agree (or not). But it is definitely worth a shot.
