I'm tring to make a media room in the basement. I looked at projectors and like the size of the screens, but not the brightness. I have three kids who are under 4, and don't want to have to turn lights off to watch a movie. I really like the samsung 61" dlp, but i would like to build in the wall. I'm worried about heat issues. Has any one built one in wall? (or seen one?) Pictures would be nice. I'm also wanting to do a wet bar. Any pics of a wet bar would help out to. Any input would be appreciated.

THanks,
jwiss

jwiss,

This is what I plan on doing. I have a 56" DLP for everyday viewing which I plan to build a false wall around covered in GOM(Accoustically transparent) with only the TV showing, plus you can hide your speakers. You want to keep at least 6in behind the TV for air to move.

Here are some examples from Koach and ChillintheOC.
BigmouthinDC has a sweet setup.

Get a drop down screen in front of the TV for the future if you want to go big.

Funny thing when I started to build out my basement I planned on doing a built in Pioneer 910 but when we started mocking up the size we decided it was just to small and then things got out of hand and we ended up with a FP setup in a multi purpose room.

As for heat build up you can address that a number of ways. Run a powered vent to an adjacent room or exhaust the hot air outside with a silent bathroom fan that is activated by an attic line voltage thermostat. It only runs then the space gets too hot.

Here are some shots of my space:

You really need to see buffbakers work:

Biggy,

How about we make your Theater a sticky or how about your theater the backgound pictures for AVS. You and Sandman's theater would be the way to go.

Jwiss,

Listen to Big, the man knows everything about everything.

Thanks when I'm done I'll do a recap post. There are lot's of things I would change.
Also I know how to take a good picture and can find an angle that will make any room look good. There are some pics of my space that make it look really odd and that there is a lot of wasted space. We'll see once I move in all the planned furniture.

Here is my 61" samsung dlp we have had no heat issues. There is about a 1 or 2 inch gap at the top so air can move from the bottom on up
