Kudos to you Sony for encouraging user created content in games ala UT3 and Little Big Planet. This has always been one of my biggest beefs w/ console gaming. I absolutely love playing around w/ mods and such when I start to get sick of a game. Did anybody mess around w/ the PC Oblivion mods? Oh my god, they were hilarious and seriously can double the fun of the game. There is so much potential here w/ upcoming games. I'm really excited about it.

I love creating mods, and have done several for many different types of games.

I can see why many companies don't want to support modding on the console though. Many 3rd party mods are better than 1st party downloadable content. They don't want free mods cutting into their profits.

It would be nice if they'd loosen up and realize mods generate MORE sales. They are content that keep people playing, that didn't cost them a dime.

I can't tell if R6: Vegas is as freely customizable as it's previous incarnations (R6 1-3).

As far as I can tell, none of that can be ported to the console version. But, I can't seem to find any user created maps or mods for the PC either (for Vegas). I haven't really looked that hard, since I don't have a machine that can run it. But, if there's no user created mods for it, I'll just go back to R6: Raven Shield.

I think that modding single player games (Oblivion) is safe and fun. I think that unfortunately modding games that are online, and 'competitive' can lead to hacks, etc that ruins the gaming experience more than worth it sometimes. Its a fine balance, and I think UT3 will be a good test to see the security of the PS3 and its servers. If it passes, it will be a big plus to dual console owners to pick the PS3 version over the Xbox.

If they used a mod package file (ie ESP like Oblivion), that only run in the singleplayer game, allowing modding wouldn't cause a threat at all. Those package files themselves pose no threat to the multiplayer component. Exploits on PCs generally are bots or trainers that are small programs running. The same thing on the PS3 would be near impossible, and if they did come about, they'd be quickly squashed by firmware updates.

I'm hoping this is huge for them so the other competitor has to come off of their high horse about charging for darn near all content.

UT3 will have an extremely long lifespan as the PC version and its mod community will keep it around for years.

I'm always happy to see more content, hopefully this pushes the envelope even further.
